Menu sounded really good for EUR19 and the amuse bouche arrived quickly unfortunately it was anchovies and my wife doesn't do bones!. Waited some time to order and with only one professional and an obvious trainee, this was never going to be a normal meal.

Starter of sea food plate was large but some was tough. Main of squid, since the confit of duck was off, was huge chunks of rubbery material drowned in an amoricain sauce which really didn't go. My sea bream was good however apart from the McDonalds chips.
Took ages to get the deserts and then, ultimately, the bill.

Sad - but won't bother again

I have been travelling through Calais off and on for over thirty years and the one thing that has remained constant, over most of that time has been Le Detroit. There is always a warm welcome from the staff and the food is always of good standard and the wine list is equally good. The sole meuniere is lovely and is often the main course of choice. This is not an expensive restaurant and for those on a tighter budget, the fixed price menus are very good value. Having visited twice in the last few weeks, this is a restaurant which will continue to be my favoured choice, when compared to other restaurants in Calais.

We had a couple of hours to find a meal before our ferry back to England. After looking at several restaurants and menus we decided on Le Detroit as it looked better than others we had seen. We were so pleased we did - lovely little plate of brown shrimps, prawns and mayonnaise while we chose from the menu compliments of the chef. Service excellent and the food was absolutely delicious! Skate in black butter with capers was perfect and sole dieppoise was fab! Cheeseboard to die for! Only sorry we had to rush a bit towards the end of the meal to catch the boat. Would certainly return! Jan and Ra Williams

The amuse bouche and olives were a pleasant diversion to another wise unmemorable meal, the starter was very acceptable being a hot crab and cheese dish served in its shell, but the mains a beef steak was tough and sinewy , not at all acceptable.I will not be going again.
