“Very nice”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

We stopped at the Hotel next door and based upon other comments decided to try La Diligence. The service was very good and the waitress was very friendly and helpful. We opted for the menu de jour and were pleasantly surprised at the selection available for 3 courses at 17 euros. The food was very good and well presented. bottles of wine were expensive, however; glasses of house wine were very reasonable.
Would definitely visit again.

“small and intimate”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

Conveniently located next door to The Hotel Meurice where we were staying. The menu was varied but a little confusing so we decided to go Al a carte for the same price as a set menu as it gave more choice. The food was beautifully cooked and the presentation was lovely. The service was efficient and the waitress very pleasant. The only downside was the limited wine list in a reasonable price range - if you were prepared to pay 40 - 50 euros for a bottle of wine you probably wouldnt be staying in a 3* hotel as all the people in the restaurant were. However I would definitely recommend eating here and will visit again next time I'm in Calais.

“Excellent and good value”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

We stayed in the hotel next door (Hotel Meurice) for a night and ate in the adjacent restaurant. We had the 25 Euro three course menu (there was a cheaper option also). All the food was well prepared and beautifully presented. The total bill was 71 Euro including wine and aperitifs.

“Good quality traditional French cooking”
Reviewed July 27, 2013

This restaurant is attached to the Hotel Meurice, where we were staying. We very much enjoyed our dinner here. The restaurant is small and family run. The food was delicious.....foie gras, scallops in champagne sauce, ile flottante, and a good wine list. Recommended.

“excellent food”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

The restaurant is attached to but separately managed from the Hotel Meurice and is one of the better restaurants in this part of France. There is an a la carte menu and three set menus at 20, 25 and 35 Euros. We opted for the 25 Euro menu where the starter was an inspired combination of foie gras and warmed langoustine on a perfectly dressed bed of crisp salad. The cod main course came with an impressive array of contrasting vegetables which were so well cooked that you could forgive the slightly over elaborate presentation.

We were also treated to some accidental cabaret from the large function room next door where local rotary style groups were meeting. Service in the restaurant was excellent , considering that the waitress was also serving canapes for the meeting next door. At the end of the meal, she showed us how to sneak through the function room and back to the hotel without having to brave the freezing weather outside.

Would highly recommend this restaurant, and indeed the pleasingly old fashioned Hotel Meurice, should you find yourself in Calais.
