Returned this morning following 18 nights with Eurocamp in Clarys Plage. Eurocamp were terrific. The courier who met us, the kid's club reps; no complaints. Our mobile was a bit small and we would aim to get a bigger one but it was clean and had ample surrounding space. 5 stars to Eurocamp.
At first glance the site looked brilliant for younger kids, ours are 5 and 3. There are two excellent playgrounds on sand on each side of the road. One is directly beside the pool and bar. On our first night after dinner we headed down to the playground beside the bar. It was about 8pm and was very busy. Our 3 year old was knocked off a ladder by a much older child who was part of a group of kids about 14 or 15 years old. There were running riot around the younger kids and completely unsupervised. I took them to task about their dangerous behaviour but they as much as told me where to go. Their 'parents' were in the bar having a terrific time no doubt.
The following day at the pool, the same gang of boys were causing similar chaos at the pool. Jumping off the bridge into the lazy river, dive bombing into the indoor pool and racing up the back steps to the slides. We felt it was too dangerous to stay with our kids. The staff member on duty is there to ensure you don't eat, drink, wear shoes etc. They are not supervising the pool or being lifeguards at any level. They will not enforce the rules, even when prompted.
We stopped going to the playgrounds after 7pm and even during the day we had to watch carefully. We never went to the pool before 6pm when it was much quieter. We spoke to numerous families of young children all in the same boat - avoiding the very amenities they had paid to get for their kids. Whenever we spoke to kids misbehaving they told us their parents were 'in the bar'. Appalling parenting.
I'm not sure what the site as such can do to resolve this but given that it is very clear that they do not supervise or enforce rules at the playgrounds and pools, there is little to be done. It is clear however that there is no entertainment for children over 12 and if the parents are only interested in drinking then what are they to do?
Our kids befriended children beside us and they all played together at our sites each night.
More generally, the site is well located next to a large supermarket, St. Gilles, St. Jean de Monts, a beach. We drove to Pue du fou which was fantastic for a day out and I will review seperately.
Won't recommend this site for the reasons stated but if I heard of a nearby site with similar facilities and proper enforcement of rules by site staff then I would return to the area.
