“Camping Acapulco - Outstanding”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2013

Visited this campsite for 4 years. Have been so impressed we eventually bought our own caravan in 2012. The sight is welcoming and friendly and suits people of all ages from small children to the elderly. The pool and bar area have been extensively improved. There is plently of entertainment on offer if you wish to participate, from exercising in the pool, football, volleyball, bingo and musical bands. The onsite convienience store is useful and there is a supermarket within a short walk. You will need a car to get around. The centre of St. Jean de Mont is very busy in August. The beach is a 10 min walk up the road and is lovely and sandy. You feel safe on the site with a security guard patrolling in high season. The people in reception are always happy to help and advise. One year our toilet got blocked, this was reported and within 2 hours a plummer turned up and fixed it. There are 3 shower blocks, toilets and washing machines on site. Having bicyles is useful for getting around locally which you can hire.
Would thoroughly recommend this site to families and friends of all generations.

Room Tip: Book directly through the site and if you wish to be in a quiet position ask to be further away from...

we stayed here for 10 nights at the end of august. we were with canvas holidays and had a 2 bed caravan . we travelled by car with overnight ferry crossings . i will point out a few things that may be of use if you are thinking of this type of holiday or even this site...
this is the second time we have done this type of holiday and both times with canvas ..
firstly this is not a cheap holiday overall cost amounts to the same as a 4 star all inclusive , we are a family of 4 with a 12 and 13 year old.
having said that its a different type of holiday offering different things.
you will definatly need a car and hence the majority of people driving with ferry or eurotunnel crossings, there is many different crossing locations and lengths of crossings some overnight and some day crossings and this is down to your own preference i have tried day and night crossings . I would suggest that if you like driving and are confident driving in france then you reely dont need the hassle of a long overnight crossing they reely take up nearly a full day and are very teedious i would go for the shortest available crossing and have a good rest stop somewhere this way in most cases you can get there within 20 hours , and the same when you travell home.
canvas are a decent reputable company easy to deal with and helpful, the reps at the site are the ususal year gap students but they were great with the kids and worked hard enough .
the caravan was a big let down a very basic and extremley small and a bit smelly , no decking and the outside space was just sand and weeds .
Camping acappulco is a big enough site with a good pool complex , on site bar and restaurant with takeaway available, theres a shop/bakery, and the usual bike hire and tennis court . On site the drinks are very expensive and another big let down was the evening entertainment basically all aimed at and spoken in french. The site is rammed full of caravans some of them nearly touching each other .
the local area is pleasant enough beach is very quiet and about 10min walk , there are a few restaurants and one bar (le new jack ) and the mini golf is good ...
the super u supermarket is just down the road but we found it lacking much choice and lots of empty shelves there is a hyper u along the road at st hillier which was massive with lots of choice well worth the drive about 10-15mins .
we spent most days around the pool which opens at 9.15 you cant towel the beds , the weather was fabulous we all came home with tans .
having stayed previousley at atlantique in brittany which was much more sapcious and private we found acapulco very cramped.
all in all we have done this twice now and think its very over priced , disappointed with the canvas caravan but the canvas service is ok.
if we ever holiday in france again would def just do a short dover/calais crossing and get there a lot quicker, canvas reely have to review there pricing back to all inclusive for us for a couple of years

Room Tip: book a larger caravan with decking but your gona pay more!

We booked 6 nights and only stayed 3. This campsite was large and lively much to lively for us. Our pitch was right beside the playground which was do noisy past midnight every night when we told reception they said the security should have dealt with the noise (no sign of any security) during our stay. The pool area was overcrowded and never had enough sun loungers. The beach was long 15 min walk uphill. The site is mainly mobile homes and services are not convenient for motorhomes the chemical and grey waste were a trek for my husband. There were always a que for the showers. Delighted that we took the decision to leave early

I was there with my partner and my two grandsons, 17 and 13, for two weeks from 4 August to 18 August 2012. As we were fly-driving I had a number of questions for Direct Camping and their office answered my e-mails promptly and efficiently.

Have to say that although 4 of us went on this holiday, I had named 6 people as going as two were maybe going to join us . In the event they didn't, which was just as well as we had one double room and one room with bunk beds and a single bed, so where they would have slept if they had arrived I have no idea! The room with the bunk beds and single bed was very small with very narrow space inbetween the bunks and the bed, so would have been a real problem getting between them if you were a larger person, as it was bad enough for us and we are not big.

We were a little late in arriving but with help managed to find the French Freedom tent. We found a note from the couriers who left us the keys to our mobile home. We had booked linen and were grateful to find that the beds had been made up and a welcome pack left ready on the table in the seating area. Although clean, unfortunately the mobile home had seen better days ie the dining table edge was stuck down with sellotape, the bench seating had come away from the backboard and was ripped, the freezer door in the fridge kept falling off and the kitchen was ill-equiped ie no bread board for cutting, no coffee maker, poor quality cutlery with only 4 forks but more knives, spoons, poor range of cooking utensils, all kept in a drawer the inside of which was badly pitted. On the decking there was a wooden picnic table with attached benches and umbrella, which was good, but the two white plastic loungers looked dirty and when I went to clean them discovered it wasn't actually dirt but weather worn. There were also two white plastic chairs, one of which was broken. We didn't complain about any of this as didn't think there was much to be done, so we got on with it. The good thing though was the shower worked well, although we were without water for a short period a couple of days and the electricity went out late one night.

Camping Acapulco itself was great and in an ideal spot. The site was kept clean by the hardworking staff and the pool complex was ideal for all ages. The reception and bar staff were helpful and cheerful and there were quite a few things going on in the bar in the evening, although mostly in French. We did enjoy an evening of cabaret with dinner which was both funny and entertaining.

Security on the site in the evening was excellent, as guards checked wrist bands etc.

Although we did think the mobile home was below standard as compared to one we had been to with Eurocamp, the two reps were willing to help if you needed them, although to be honest we were pretty independent and didn't need assistance. French Freedom had a tent where you could leave messages for the reps and books, toys etc., were left around for campers.

French Freedom did not seem to offer much in the way of a childrens club as far as I could see, but Canvas Holidays had lots going on for families so have to say if you have young children I would opt for them.

I did notice that someone mentioned the pool, it shutting at 7.00pm and maybe opening late in the morning. Their stay was at the same time as ours but to be honest whenever we went to the pool in the morning it was always open and in fact one evening that we know of the pool was still open at 8.00pm???

I have rated the property as very good and this really applies to the site alone. The mobile home I would rate as poor because of the things I have mentioned.

Room Tip: My cleanliness rating and location rating are re the site itself. The room with the bunk beds and si...

i think canvas holidays and camping acapulco need to remember that people are on holiday not in a correctional facility???
the caravan was smelly and so tight for space that we couldnt even use the toilet or shower
we had to use the campers shower block we couldnt even get dressed in the rooms
and we are not large people it was pathetic
the staff are rude
the pool shuts at 7.00pm in high season and thats when they can be botherd to open it before lunch
worst holiday ever
dont recommend the site or Canvas Holidays your better off roughing it

Room Tip: choose eurocamp or keycamp or siesta better rooms no hidden suprises avoid Canvas Holidays

We booked with direct camping and it was a very cheap rate. We went in June and the weather was awful but worst still the facilities and kids camps were ALL closed! Pool area is very well kept and the heated pool was our saving grace. There was very little for the kids to do and the beach was a very steep 15 minutes trek! The caravans were is disrepair and we waited 5 days for a working toilet seat and that only came when I got cross. What was worse was the morning we were leaving the rep {unfriendliest Irish girl EVER} came to the caravan and inspected it as if her life depended on it.... It was cleaner than when we arrived. Also bed in double room was 2 camp beds attached and the mattress was about 2 inches deep. Nightmare holiday but the other campers made it bearable. Def book with a reputable agent next time. Canvas holidays had lots going on and lots of friendly and ACTIVE reps. Never again!

Room Tip: Don't use Direct Holidays or French freedom!

We only visited here after having 7 terrible days of weather in northern Brittany and deciding to travel further south so as not to waste our holiday.

We turned up on spec at Camping acapulco and did a deal with a courier working for French Freedom and got a decent mobile home with decking for 300 euro. The site is clean and very well looked after woith a good pool complex wqhich kept the children entertained. The beach is only 5 minutes walk so is really handy and there is a large supermarket almost next door.

The bar on site is a little expensive but about par for the course all in all a good site well run with good facilities.
