“perfect for everyone”
Reviewed September 4, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

WOW! Just WOW! What more can you say for such a stunning house? There was nothing that was less than 5* it was beautiful. Also it was practical for the whole family, and i mean WHOLE family, we traveled with our children 2 and 5, my parents and my grandmother. The youngest person was 2, the eldest 83. We had so so much fun, The house was comfortable, airy, clean, beautiful, and unique, it is almost like every single corner has been polished with a little bit of love and attention. The children had fun playing the games in the lounge and on the one rainy day we had watching cbbc, I had fun sitting in the garden at night staring at the stars, I have never seen so many! My dad loved the silence, and my mum (and again, I will include myself) adored the lovely welcome pack, it really did come in handy! I don't know how words can really praise this place more as it is just beautiful. It is close enough to many many many attractions, but far away enough to be peaceful. The owners have left tonnes of info on places to see and places to eat! The beds.... ooooh the beds.... I have NEVER had a better sleep in my life, they were amazingly comfortable, I wanted to take the beds home with me. The bathrooms (2 bathrooms, and a downstairs loo) were modern, clean and lovely, the kitchen is HUGE and there are plenty of pots pans herbs spices and a good sized fridge and freezer, and a dishwasher and washing machine. SERIOUSLY just go! you will not regret it!!!

WOW what can WE say!! Thank you so much for your kind comments and we are glad you enjoyed the cottage. We have tried hard to make it a home rather than "just" a rental as we also spend quite a lot of time their keeping it in good shape. Hope to see you again

“Lovely peaceful cottage”
Reviewed October 7, 2013 for a stay in September 2013

We went looking for peace and tranquility and that is exactly what this cottage provides. It is a beautifully renovated building in a rural setting with a large orchard garden where we spent much of the week. The only noise was from the surrounding neighbours farm equipment and yappy dogs. More a comment than a criticism is that the property just lacks a little something that would make it feel like home as opposed to a rental. My main criticism was that the house had clearly not been cleaned thoroughly prior to our visit. More superficial dust than anything but the kitchen cupboards and some of the utensils were not clean. Also one of the bedrooms and the lounge was starting to have a damp musty smell, although we arrived after the first wet autumnal week so presumably this would not be a problem in summer. If you stay in autumn or winter you will have to pay for the heating and electric. This cost us £36 for the week, it was hardly on as we had beautiful Indian summer type weather. I dread to think how much this would cost in the middle of winter. Watch out for the hot water as it comes out at an absolutely scalding temp. Yes there are warnings everywhere but you still get caught out. Surely this could be fixed easily? Some sharp knives in the kitchen would be appreciated too!

Sorry you had the "dust" problem and this is unusual as other reviews testify but we have passed on your comments to the housekeepers. Thank you. The heating is fully controllable and if not needed can be switched off/down. This was the first usage of the central heating this year although temperatures were still high as you mention. Sorry for the issues and those that can be addressed will be.

“Wonderful Thatched Cottage in Calvados”
Reviewed October 2, 2013 for a stay in September 2013

A lovely thatched cottage for up to 8 people within driving distance of many of the popular visitor attractions of Normandy. Great large kitchen and big bedrooms. Local town of Vire easily reached in 15mins with all amenities and shops you need. Nearby lake well worth a walk around and golf couse open to visitors if you play. We had a party of 6 staying in this property and everyone said they would go again so can't say fairer than that!

“We couldn't believe our luck.”
Reviewed August 6, 2013 for a stay in July 2013

A superb property, very sympathetically restored to retain character and located in a beautiful, quiet setting. The property is spacious and very well equipped. Furnishings are of a high quality and very comfortable (difficult to get people off the sofas - perfect for an afternoon nap!). There were some lovely walks from the front door, the surrounding countryside was beautiful and the locals were very friendly. We found this a great base from which to explore many attractions e.g. Bayeux, Omaha Beach, Domefront, Mont St Michel - to name but a few ( this property being approx one hour's drive from each). More local excellent attractions were Lake Dathee (10 minutes), cascades at Mortain (20 minutes) and Villedieu Les Poelles for a pretty good market (25 minutes).

Many thanks and we are glad you enjoyed the cottage. We have tried to restore and furnish it as our own home rather than just a rental. We enjoy staying there as well and look forward to the peace and tranquillity and unhurried French rural life yet still being within a short distance of many interesting places to visit.

“Beautiful cottage in a peaceful location”
Reviewed July 23, 2013 for a stay in July 2013

Over the past 10 years we have stayed in several holiday cottages in France and this property was one of the best. It is very well furnished and is equipped to the highest standard. The property is situated in a picturesque and peaceful setting. There are horses in the surrounding fields as well as a particularly adorable donkey called Barnaby. There are many things to do in the area – amongst other things we visited the Granite Park Museum and the Bell Foundry at Villedieu-Du-Poeles.

Thank you for your kind comments and we are glad you enjoyed your stay. We couldn't believe our luck when we found the property which was in need of a bit of TLC! However after a lot of hard work (and going over budget!) we are pleased that our guests without exception like the result and we have a property to be proud of. Thank you again

“Perfect in every way”
Reviewed May 27, 2013 for a stay in May 2013

We just completed a week's stay at La Pelviniere. It was immaculate and just as described. We enjoyed evenings around the fire in the living room and discussions around the dining table. The baths have more advanced plumbing than I have in my own house. It is perfectly located within no more than 1.3 hours drive from all major sites in Normandy + Mount St. Michele. Further Vire is not a major tourist city so a visitor can have a "feel" for life in a small French town and still have access to good restaurants in addition to all the tourist sites. If I return to Normandy, I will again book La Pelviniere if it is available.
