“Average hotel in a touristy area with few choices”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2008

We booked two rooms at the Hotel de la Digue just outside the Mont St. Michel in Normandy, France, through Hotels.com. There weren't a lot of choices for the area, but it looked pretty nice online. We were traveling around France by car and wanted to spend a night near the Mont St. Michel. We were unable to get a room at a hotel within Mont St. Michel this particular weekend.

When we arrived, our rooms were not ready, so we left our baggage in the car and drove to the Mont St. Michel for a few hours of sightseeing. When we returned, our rooms were ready. We had no problems checking in.

This hotel appears to be in 2 sections, possibly an original hotel plus a takeover of the establishment that was directly next door in the same building. I can't be sure, and I didn't ask. We were given 2 rooms side by side in what seemed to be the taken over side. The decor was different and had a separate entrance from the side where the lobby and restaurant were. I don't think the two sides of the hotel were connected, we had to walk outside to get to the lobby and restaurant.

We had rooms 53 and 54. The rooms were clean and presentable, carpet and decor were a bit outdated, but not an issue. These rooms were also extremely large for a European hotel. One of our rooms had 4 beds, 2 twins pushed together a twin on its own and a roll away. Our second room had two beds. Both rooms offered spacious bathrooms, desks, telephones and TV, although channel choices were very limited. We were exhausted and the beds afforded a good night's sleep.

We would probably stay at this hotel again if we were to visit the Mont St Michel and wanted to stay close by. We would not, however, eat at the hotel restaurant again. We absolutely love French food and this restaurant was a major disappointment. The food was overpriced, way too 'fancy', not too tasty, and the restaurant staff were not overly welcoming, accommodating, or friendly. I would highly recommend that you stay away from the restaurant.

Overall, the Hotel de la Digue was a good choice.

**I must apologize for the unmade beds in my photos. I didn't have a chance to take room photos until the morning of our departure.

We had a lovely stay at the Hotel La Digue earlier this month. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. My teenaged daughters and I shared a triple room on the ground floor. The beds were comfortable. The lack of air conditioning was not a problem, since it was a cool night. The room was very clean, as was the bathroom. One big negative was that there was no hot water when I went to take a shower before bed! We had dinner in the main restaurant, which was delicious. The traditional omelet from Mont St Michel was much more reasonably priced here than it is at La Mere Poulard on the Mont. Breakfast at the hotel was adequate. You simply cannot beat the location of this hotel, which is the last one on the road approaching Mont St. Michel. Viewing Mont St Michel as the sun sets and night falls is a beautiful sight!

  • Liked — Proximity to Mont St Michel; the friendliness of the staff
  • Disliked — No hot water for my shower!

This is an OK Hotel, the best thing about it is the location the last hotel on the road up to Mont -St Michel. We walked up there on the first night to take some pictures.
Mont St Michel is truly beautiful and it was good to be so close (1K+)
My only problem was the lack of air conditioning, unfortunately we found this a common occurrence in Europe and it was the hottest summer ever.
We had three in the room and the size was quite big for Europe and the third bed was suitable for our adult daughter!

No air conditioning. Very hot when we visited. Could not leave window open for fear of theft and bugs. Our room was on the ground floor. Good clean bathrooms. Comfortable rooms. Food was ok. Had to book 2 nights when you only needed to stay 1 to see everything.

We stayed at this hotel because of its location, very close to the Mont without being right on it. The room was large, good for a family of four. Service was friendly. Unfortunately on the day we arrived there was a heat wave, and there is no air conditioning in this hotel. When we entered the room we found "85,000 bugs" on the wall, as my son put it. We spent the next 20 minutes swatting them dead. We killed them all, but couldn't open the window for fear of letting more bugs inside. The maid kindly sprayed the room with bug killer, and attributed them to the unusual heat. We didn't know whether to keep the window open to let in cool air, or keep it closed to keep out bugs and potential burglars (this was a ground-level room). Fortunately the weather cooled, otherwise we would have suffocated in this room. Food here is okay, but service can get slow when there are lots of customers.

Good, familly run hotel, nice clean rooms some with THE VIEW (you've got to go to know what I am talking about), very friendly service. Excellent restaurant. Gourmet dinner at a reasonable price, again with THE VIEW is a must!
Leave your car at the hotel and walk from there. It is a lovely 2 km stroll. On a busy day you would have to park half way anyhow.
