“Warm service, great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2013

Given the number of tourists that visit MSM during the summer, it really is quite a treat to stay overnight and get to experience it in a much more peaceful and reflective way. I found the Mouton Blanc to be delightful. The staff was warm and welcoming, extremely helpful when I had questions about my train ticket, and overall very friendly. The room was comfortable and clean, with a view up to the abbey when I leaned out the window. Yes, you'll hear the service workers in the early morning, but they pass by quickly and it's easy to go back to sleep. The buffet breakfast was great and staying overnight allowed even more time to explore MSM before the hoards of tourists arrived. I'd recommend going late in the day, spend the night at the Mouton Blanc, then leave after lunch. Plenty of time to really enjoy this magical place!

This is a 2 star hotel that met our expectations. We received a friendly checkin. The bathroom and bedroom were both very clean and were a reasonable size. The bed was comfortable. The early morning noise from the street did wake us early. The upside is sleeping in an Medieval town and having the opportunity to explore the island later in the day without huge crowds.

Le Mouton Blanc is a hotel having a location which is probably unbeatable. However, we found this hotel extremely expensive and it certainty did not meet our expectations. The room was very old, dirty (the carpet could even be described as filthy) and some things were even broken. Furthermore, the service was not particularly nice nor professional.

I would therefore recommend to other travellers staying in a hotel outside the Mont Saint Michel, as this option will be much more economic and will offer more comfortable and cleaner rooms, while at the time will still give travellers the chance to visit the Mont at night as there are shuttles running until pretty late in the evening.

The first thing you need to know about this hotel is that the rooms are not in the same place as the attractive-looking restaurant and reception area that you are shown on the website, and on the main image used here. They are in fact located in an old dilapidated building about 100 metres up the road, and immediately next to a graveyard and by a belltower which tolled throughout the night. We paid 115 euros for one night in a double room last weekend which was in a worse state than some youth hostels I have stayed in. Torn wallpaper, threadbare carpets and towels and very old furniture. I would not stay here again, especially not for the price.

This hotel is located nicely on the main street of Mont-St-Michel. The island is really nice and quiet after 5 pm and before 10 am, due to limited overnight tourism. Our reservation went smoothly, and the room was truly authentic, with beamed ceilings and wooden windows. Plenty of space and a nice bathroom. I would rate everything as excellent, with the exception of breakfast--overpriced at 17 euros, and completely understaffed with no one to notice that coffee, hot water, and pastries were all gone.

I debated whether to give a 3 star rating but this is listed as a 2 star property so I guess I need to be fair. It certainly did NOT exceed expectations. It is well located. It is basic beds in a dark room (we had a quad room). Probably our worst accommodations for our 3 weeks in europe which included 2 to 4 star accommodations. Having said that, for the price range and location, I don't know if there is anything better if I wanted to stay in town. I had visited Mont. St. Michel in the past about 20 years ago and was disappointed at how much it has changed. Food was more expensive here than in London, Paris, Ile de Re, Sarlat or Carcassonne. People were not very friendly at all, compared to other comparable sized towns we had been in. You were constantly squeezing past people on the crowded streets. Yet once we were up in the abbey (we got there 1 hour before it closed because we heard there was a strike and it might not be open the next day - and it wasn't so we got lucky to arrive when we did), it was so nice to get away from the crowded streets and take in the amazing view. Yes there were people there too, but there were places to get away from them. I think if you spend your time mainly up in the abbey and exploring it (plus took in views of Mont St. Michel from the rural countryside), you would appreciate Mont St. Michel, but if your experience was eating in a restaurant and shopping in the town and walking the streets you might be disappointed. One possible thought - I only looked at accommodations in the walls, but there is the part of town on the other side of the causeway with free transportation between (although that might change - I think it is part of the reason for the strike)... The food prices were certainly better over there in the restaurants and I suspect the accommodations might be better... is it a hop and a skip away - 30 min walk or 6 min free transport bus which comes really regularly and you also get a view of mont st. michel from there... we actually ended up leaving the walled town to eat dinner in this area.

Staying on the Mont is a good way to see it: you get to avoid the horrendous crowds of mid-day. And the M.B. is a nice place. Our room was a half-timbered charmer. And breakfast was excellent, the staff was friendly and helpful.

Warnings:
We were on the top floor. the stairs are narrow, steep, and winding. So if you don't like hauling your luggage in tight spaces, this wouldn't be for you. (No elevator.)

the room was small and had little storage space. There was a second bed, but no-one in their right mind would insert a third person into this chamber. (They should remove the bad and add some useful furniture...)
