Remember that Mont St Michel is not accessible by car. You have to park in the out of town car park (get the car park access code from your hotel first) then catch the free car park transit bus to Mont St Michel (about 10 min ride). The hotel is close to the entrance of the island which is a Godsend when you're carrying heavy luggage. The rooms are small as expected with mainly French tv channels. It's a good idea to take water and juice with you as the island's retailers are very expensive. For dinner I would recommend Concale (30 miles away) which has excellent seafood. Whilst Mont St Michel is a must see it is very pricey. With this in mind the hotel was well priced at €90 per night

This was a surprisingly comfortable hotel considering its age and the age of everything on the island. The room was dark, but had plenty of lamps and lighting and I was impressed by its cleanliness. The bathroom was small but adquate and clean. The bed was very comfortable and the linens were very decent. The location, of course, was excellent. We had two meals there. Lunch on the day we arrived and dinner that same day after visiting the abbey. The lunch was okay. I guess I don't really care for those Madame Poulard-style omelettes. The dinner in the hotel's restaurant was quite good, and convenient.

Being on the island is nice, but the rooms at this hotel are totally not worth the price: they barely look like a Formule 1 (cheapest motels in France): small, old-fashioned, smells of mould, super-tiny plastic-walls bathroom / toilet in the same area, terrible decoration, bad mattress with mandatory twin beds (no good for love birds!), WIFI connection was NOT working (despite the fact they advertise free WIFI) and harsh stairway to reach the rooms (people with limited mobility or heavy luggages: be aware). Breakfast was completely forgettable as well, certainly not worth the price advertised: if your room rate doesn't include breakfast, I highly recommend that you skip it, and go to a nearby coffee / pancakes joint (breakfast formula around 7.50 EUR) for a more satisfying meal. The only nice thing about this hotel was the lovely view on the sea from our tiny window. I am so chocked for the price I paid (250 EUR for 2 rooms). My best advice would be to avoid wanting to be on the island at all cost: it is super-crowded, hotel options are limited and therefore widely over-priced. On the other hand, there is a free shuttle bus that easily links the island / continent back and forth, frequency every 10 mn, and there is a much wider hotel selection just outside the island (I heard lots of positive comments about Mercure). I didn't find we had any added value staying on the island. Due to the very high flow of tourist traveling to Mount St Michel every day, they do not need any effort seducing their custoemrs: people will keep booking massively anyway. As for the restaurant part of Mouton Blanc: super-disappointing as well. Slow service, insipid food; mostly processed (my fish soup definitely tasted like a canned soup just re-heated from the micro-wave), even the mussels; a rather local speciality, was totally bland in taste. the only acceptable dish for me was a plate of cheese. To me, this is a plain tourist-trick!

One should definitely stay at the island within the abbey; to feel and enjoy Mont St Michel.
We have felt and enjoyed Mont St Michel staying at Le Mouton Blanc; a small hotel located in a small mediavel building right on the main road; giving the exact atmosphere you expect as you start organising your visit to Mont St Michel.
Luckly we had the attic room; it was quite small but it felt like we are staying in an "inn" in the Bourbon times with wooden columns, old glass windows and old style wooden curtain... And more important than anything, we could see the main road, other old buildings sorrounding ours and part of the tower from the window..
So who cares about the size of the room or the narrow stairs you have to take or the uncomfortable bed or unlocking the backdoor to be able to get back to your room after -I can't remember what time- or very good breakfast which would surprise you for sure.
Just stay here and enjoy Mont St Michel in any time of the day especially at night after the tourist groups leave the city to its residents -permanent or temporary- :)

If you are looking to save some money, don't stay on the island. However, for us it was only around $20 difference and we more than made up for that. Late night walks through the maze of streets, very early morning views over the causeway and getting to see the island after everyone leaves is magical. Our room (one of the modern ones) was tiny but well appointed and the walls were very thin. Beautiful little window over the main street & well heated.

You wouldn't stay here if you didn't like the medieval style of the island anyway. Only 1 street, and all the restaurants are very overpriced for what they are. We brought snacks from the mainland for our two nights here and didn't have a worry. Staff speak excellent English on the phone but front desk staff had little to no English.

Best bit was definitely the tiny alleyways you could slip through. We saw a range of stray cats and got to explore parts of the island you wouldn't have time for as a day tourist.

Stayed here one night while enjoying Mont Saint Michel. Very centrally located on the main street. We arrived early and they let us store our bags on the 1st floor - in the bfast room. Room was very clean, the single bed was less comfortable then we were used to, the double bed was fine. Bathroom very nice. Restaurant downstairs, and also a terrace eating area on the 1st floor. Bfast was 19 euros which we quickly passed on so not sure about that...the Causeway to the island is under construction. Called hotel ahead of time and they gave us instructions to parking lot #3, and code to get through the gate to the lot - located on the mainland - nearer to the island than the main, public parking lot. We asked a couple of the parking lot guys and they gave us good directions. Would have rated this hotel 4 stars if the breakfast was more reasonalbly priced.

Room Tip: ok choice for mont saint Michel.....just have breakfast some where else.

This place is so charming. If you are looking to compare it to the Ritz-Carlton, don't stay here. If you like charm and cozy, it is wonderful. the bathroom was tiny, but I didn't spend much time there so it was of no consequence. Loved staying on the Mont and walking the ramparts at night with no crowds what so ever. If fact the 4 of us didn't see anyone else at night. If you stay in a room facing the "street" be aware that they move all of the supplies every early in the morning by way of forklift. And since there is only 1 street they will be driving under your window. Just grin and bear it----it is certainly work it.
