“Nice room and breakfast”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2013

We were located on the 3rd floor with a room for four. The room was not big but was clean. It was convenient and nice to have stayed on the Mont. The breakfast was good and with a wide variety of choices. We enjoyed our stay there.

I stayed on the Mont four years ago with my son and again at Le Mouton Blanc just now. It's totally worth it, especially as now getting on and off is not as easy as driving up to the foot of Le Mont.

We could only get a triple room and so paid Euro 110 for two of us,but the room was a better size and the wooden beams gave it a mediavel feel, along with overlooking the narrow street and almost being able to touch the building opposite.

Eating choises are not inspiring or cheap and the Mouton was more pricey than some, so we avoided both dinner and breakfast there. In fact the public areas of the hotel weren't very nice anyway.

The main drawback was the hour of clattering and noise in the street outside our room at 06.00 - garbage collectionI guess, but why for so long? Not the hotel's fault, but annoying.

Despite all this, staying after the crowds have left and wandering along the battlements and up to the monastery in the dark makes the rest worth it.

We stayed 1 night in the hopes of experiencing a "magical" moment on the Mont. The hotel was very run down and noisy. The restaurants were all very expensive. If we hadn't called ahead to find out about parking it would have been extremely frustrating, as we required a code to get into the parking lot designated for the hotel. It cost 8.50 Euro to park overnight. We had wanted the night time experience of being on the Mont when everyone was gone but we could have achieved that by staying off the island and taking the shuttle which ran til 11pm. We got up and left early.

Decided to stay at the Mouton Blanc on Mont St Michel when returning from a business trip with the family. The rooms were ok even if a little barren and the bathrooms looked like they have been stolen from a cross channel ferry. What was really bad was the service in their restaurant / terrace. Despite the weather being ok the waitress refused to let us even carry out a coffee or a glass to drink on the terrace even though we did not expect her to serve us outside. We even would have brought the cups back inside. Rule or no she was exceedingly rude to us and we were just 2 parents and 2 kids. We did notice later the weather wasn't too bad for her to lounge outside smoking with the catering staff! As I type this I am still stuck in this dump waiting to check out and drive as quick as possible away!!!

We stayed here for one night. Not too sure if it was worth the price though as we stayed the previous night in Hotel Patton in Avranches the night before which is only 20 klms away from MSM. However we found the hotel to be in a great location. When you arrive by car you need to go to P3 parking and tell the attendant where you are staying andf they give you a code to access to the carpark which is 8.50E. Take an overnight bag or small backpark as lugging a big suitcase up the stairs is ridiculous. OK the hotel room we had was on the second floor with a obstructed view of the Abbey. But the little window before our room 106 had a perfect view. Not so good if you have a crook knee!! There was street noise around 0730 with the garbage collectors. We had a queen size bed and a single in our room with great linens and a lovely duvet. We did not eat in the restaurant for breakfast instead we ate a few doors down in the pattisserie where you could get tea, coffee and pain au chocolate etc. I would not even entertain the idea of staying here in the height of the tourist season as we had enough tourists there at this time of the year. We came here in 2001 and the place has changed a lot with a dam and a huge carpark and shuttle buses. Nothing remains the same. Food is very expensive and we had the worst meal at Les Terrasses de Poulard. If you want to experience the medieval charm then stay here otherwise sta yin Avranches and save your pennies.

Room Tip: Knee problems?? ask for a room on the lower floors.

We stayed at Le Mouton Blanc on Mont St Michel for two nights in October 2012. This hotel is actually on the island of Mont St Michel, not on the mainland like many that advertise an MSM location.

This is an interesting property. It is a roughly 100 meter walk up Mont St Michel’s narrow, cobblestone main street from the island’s main gate. It is a fairly small facility that is built out of the centuries-old structure on the island. The ambience is “early middle ages.” But unlike something at a theme park, this is for real. Our room was fairly small, but with large swing-out windows that looked out over that same narrow main “street.” The bathroom was also small, but everything worked. The towels were a little skimpy in both size and number.

The service at the hotel was excellent. Everyone we encountered was enthusiastic, friendly and helpful.

If you require a cookie-cutter Hilton-Hyatt-Marriott type of experience, this is not for you. However, if you would like an interesting lodging facility that allows you to experience Mont St Michel on a personal level (and after most of the tourist crowds have departed for the mainland), Le Mouton Blanc would be a good choice.

Note: Almost nothing on Mont St Michel, including this hotel, is easily accessible for someone with disabilities. The streets and buildings date back to the Middle Ages, and I guess it can’t all be retrofitted.

Room Tip: Our room was in the front on the second floor, overlooking the main street. The windows had shutters...

This hotel is below average. The room decor is as sparse as it gets, absolutely no frills...but unfortunately, that seems to be the norm on Mont-St-Michel. Really, you have to decide whether it's worth it or not to have a place to sleep on the island.

In retrospect, it wasn't worth it. Had we been there in the summer, when the monastery is open til 11, it would have been something to consider. But going in October, when it closes at 6, there just wasn't a reason. The restaurants on the island are overpriced and >terrible<, and while it's fun to walk around after dark, there's no reason you can't do this while staying at a way cheaper place off the island. Trams seem to run frequently, and I wish we had done this looking back. It's your choice, but you're literally just paying for a bed.
