This place is like from another world. Amazing views and a great weekend trip outside of Paris. Just realize that it isn't easy for those that are handicap or have difficulty walking.

We took a 2.5 hour train from Paris to Rennes, then a bus (1 hour 15 mins) from outside the station to the drop off where another shuttle takes you the rest of the way (less than 5 mins). It was a long morning of travelling but well worth it.
Unfortunately, the tide was out (I thought I had planned it properly to see it as an island) but it was still incredible.
The wait for the Abbey was less than 20 mins (we were there by 11am)... it seemed much busier when we were leaving.

Well worth all those steps you need to climb. Beautiful interior garden, incredible views. Lots to see inside and roam around.

Before I went I read ome negative reviews about it being expensive and a tourist trap.

Tourist trap, ok!. You have to enter via a regulated parking site. Parking is €12,- for a day. After this you can deide if you take the free shuttle bus or walk towards Mont St. Michel. We decide to do the 30-40 minute walking trip. When you arrive you have to walk up to the cathedral. The medieval street that leads you to the cathedral is covered on both sides with restaurants and souvenir shops. Just look up and try to imagine how the street must have looked once. Entrance Cathedral is €9,- for adults. Kids up to 18 yrs old free admission. Audioset, very interesting, €6,- for two sets. On the way down we ate at one of the restaurants. We didn't pay ridiculous prices. Food was ok. Looking back I enjoyed it very very much! It is a touristtrap but an awesome one!!

Ps. The climb up is not for people that have walking problems. It has, as far as I know, no access for disabled persons/wheelchairs. The road up is cobbled and uneven.

Visited late evening around 8pm. Expensive tourist tat on sale in the little "boutique" shops and the food/drink quite expensive. The mount itself and buildings/architecture/views/scenery are worth going for. Avoid mid-morning until late afternoon as it is rammed in the peak holiday season. Our parking was free as we arrived after 8pm. As soon as the sun dipped out of sight there were SWARMS of large, aggresive MOSQUITOS so be warned! Cover up or get bitten.

The site is being redeveloped so there is construction work and scaffolding about.

I'd visit again, but early in the morning to avoid the crowds and mossies.
