Le Relais Saint-Michel

Our trip to Mont Saint-Michel was filled with nearly every imaginable disaster that could have occurred! But, the hotel room was on the1st floor (not ground floor) & we were pleasantly surprised at the size of it and the view of the Mont. We were so pleased to be here that we immediately went out onto our terrace in the drizzling rain & started to take photos. We had a glass of wine each and a dessert because it was very very expensive. We ate breakfast (average) at the hotel since it was included in our reservation. We were able to use our computer in our room. We stayed 2 nights & appreciated the view and the roominess we had.

The Mont is a UNESCO site & as such, is another impressive feat of architecture & landscape. lf one has a problem with stairs, beware, because there are nearly 500 stairs once you get to them & a bit of a short uphill hike getting to the stairs. But, like the Eiffel Tower, trying to envision the feats that the architects and builders had to overcome while building is unimaginable in today's time. I, truly, appreciate what I have as a result.

On Friday evening decided to make the 3.5 hour drive from Paris to Mont Saint-Michel. Went on Tripadvisor to get a list of suggested hotels, and was fortunate to get one of the last rooms at Le Relais Saint-Michel.

The room was quite large by European standards and the bathroom was large as well. It was clean and the best aspect was the view of Mont Saint-Michel. Virtually all the rooms have a magnificent view of the Mont, and it is spectacular. The room was on the 1st floor (not ground floor) and had a nice balcony. Pretty sure none of the other hotels have a view of the Mont from your room, and the view is priceless. Wouldn't consider staying on the island, because the best view is AWAY from the island.

There is construction going on and almost missed the hotel because it is the last hotel before entering the causeway. Only had one gotcha. When checking in the receptionist told me that breakfast was between 8 and 10, and I ASSUMED it was included in the cost of the room. It was a miscellaneous continental breakfast and not very good. It was the kind of breakfast many hotels include in the cost of the room. When checking out found it cost 22 euros per person or 44 euros. It wasn't worth 10. Shame on me.

All in all, it was well worth the cost of the room, and next time I'd skip the breakfast.

Room Tip: First floor is better than the ground floor, but ground could be OK.

Very practical and comfortable hotel, large rooms, good amenities. The rooms facing the Mont have a wonderful view 24 hours a day. Nice brekfast, friendly and helpful staff, small shop with local specialities for sale. 2km walk from the Mont. Unfortunatelly there is wi-fi but no computer for guests, the only one nearby is at the Hôtel Vert, where non-guests can also use it (5€/hour).

Room Tip: Ask for a room from 1st floor upwards with view to the Mont.

The view from your room and the restaurant are fantastic but I have had better food and better service in a school canteen. For the price you pay for this hotel and the food it should be much much better. The waitresses looked dirty and slammed food on the table. I think my soup was canned! I would not stay at this hotel ever again despite the views. Go and find somewhere on the Mont to stay.

We did not book this hotel, we had it forced on us when La Mere Poulard Hotel did not have our rooms we booked 6 months earlier. The non-smoking rooms smelled of smoke, mold in the bathtub, dried fecal matter on the underside of the toilet seat, and the shower head fell off and hit my grandson in the head. This would be a 3 star hotel if they were graded fairly. The front desk has no one who speaks English and they did not bother to come to the room when we called about the problems. The prices do not warrant the expense.

We spent the night of May 22th 2011 in Le Relais Saint-Michel hotel.
It was a hot day in Normandy. We made our prepaid reservation TWO month before by hotel.com , but we got a room in the first floor , view to the street ( "Yes we have some rooms wothout view - they are the only one we have now).
The hotel has NO Air condition, but we could not open the window for the night (looking the street.)
WE PAID A LOT OF MONEY FOR A ROOM WITH A VIEW AND GOT A SIMPLE HOTEL

Room Tip: dont pay in advance

we stayed in this hotel for 2 nights during Easter Weekend. The view from our room and from the restaurant is great but the hotel is very disappointing. It looks like a motel from outside but a very expensive one. The room is ok but the bathroom needs an urgent update. The bath had mould spots around it. We had a dinner at the hotel restaurant on our first night. The food was good but very expensive. The service was terrible. The waiters made us feel like we were an inconvience. They kept the patio doors open all evening, even though nobody went to the patio area. It was a cold and windy night and as a result many restaurant quests had their coats or shawls on. The breakfast was really poor.
