“Loved it!”
Reviewed August 17, 2012

Just returned from a week at La Vallee, Houlgate. What a lovely surprise! Our mobile home (caravan) had a fantastic pitch (220), with a private little patch of garden and a lovely view across the valley to the coast at Houlgate. Beware, we did notice that some of the others just had a view of other caravans/tents and no private area. The accommodation was clean and well equipped (remember to take tea towels, hand towels and loo rolls) and the shower cubicle nice and roomy unlike other caravans we have stayed in. The campsite was fine - although when we weren't out exploring we were on our patio chilling and we only used the pool once (it was fine - clean and not too crowded). The campsite shop was ok for the very basics but loads of local supermarkets. A couple of nights there was a lot of noise (a nearby circus and a party on site) but no noise after 11pm and it didn't bother us - although perhaps if you have young children it could be an issue). Eurocamp staff on site were very helpful and friendly.
So many fab places to visit : Bayeaux is a must, the beaches at Deauville, Trouville and Houlgate were gorgeous and Honfleur was beautiful. We also visited the peace memorial at Caen although trying to negotiate the ring road out of Caen was a nightmare! For ww2 history, you must visit the Merville battery (near Cabourg) which was really interesting. On the way home, we drove through Pont L'Eveque and wished we'd visited there as it looked so pretty. Really enjoyed it.

Room Tip: If you book a mobile home, ask for a valley view - pitch 220 was excellent.

Just returned from a holiday to France for two weeks. First week I stayed in North Brittany in a camp site in Dol de Bretagne with Key camp which was fantastic however, the second week I booked was for a camp site just outside of Houlgate called La Vallee, again with Key camp, but this however turned out to be one of the worst decisions I have ever made. First of all i was kicked out of the sites swimming pool for wearing swimming shorts not Speedo's, as well we brought two car's to this camp site however were only aloud one in so we had to leave the other one outside the camp site, next the restaurant/bar's food was unbearable not too mention the fact that everyone's meals came out 10 minutes after each other and most of the staff made you feel insignificant to them. quite frankly i shall never be returning that site ever again, all be it don't avoid Houlgate it is a magnificent place, just avoid this camp site.

la vallee is a lovely, clean park, my wife and i have been to this site 3 times over a seven year period. the park facilities have improved over these years. one thing that has not improved is the new owner we found him to be rude, aggressive and i general not a very nice man.
we booked the holiday with Keycamp. we were very pleased with there service.

In fairness this site is very tidy but the restaurant is terrible and bar very expensive and shuts at 11 pm on the dot..the pool complex has super slippy tiles and the indoor pool also houses three toilets no hooks or benches to aid getting changed..and the joy of hearing people use them while you swim..toilet paper was not available in them and they insist men wear speedos for hygiene reasons rather odd logic..the most concerning factor was the unmarked cameras point at the kids area which is watched on a screen in reception something which I felt was unsettling for multiple reasons..the pool area also shuts between 12.&1.30 so no all day bathing people were asked to leave by a vile little man who instilled rules whilst walking the no shoes pool in trainers..the shop was very poorly stocked and if you don't order bread you don't have any...its a shame we visited this site 7 and 8 years ago and it had a whole different atmosphere very disappointing stay.

We arrived with our tent on the first Saturday in April 2012. Service when checking in was pretty poor and unhelpful - and resulted in us having to pay a 50 euro deposit for 4 wristbands and the access card to the site.

According to their brochure and website, both the bar/restaurant and shop onsite would be open - this was NOT the case. Initially the staff wouldn't even freeze ice blocks for us as it was too early, but after a little persistence they agreed. Staff were unhelpful and unfriendly.

Tent pitches were small but this didn't affect us too much as we were the only tent and the site was not full.(Despite this we were given the smallest pitch and told we were only allowed one car on the site.)

The 'heated' washblocks were a joke. There was one washblock with only 3/4 showers and 3 toilets. The showers had nowhere to hang clothes or put your stuff and was heated by one piddly radiator. The other washblock was not heated AT ALL and was open to the elements - the washing up area completely open with a little shelter (and taps that leaked all over you) and the toilets and showers were open except for the cubicle doors. Again there was a lack of hangers, chairs etc.. to put your stuff.

It was not cheap as far as campsites go and I felt we had been misled by the brochure, as it said all facilities would be open but they weren't. (Apart from the money guzzling slotties!)

The indoor pool was OK, but you had to remove your shoes outside before entering and walk through a freezing footbath - still outside - which when temps did go as low as -1 was not great. Again changing facilities at the pool were insufficient.

A great area though which we will definitely visit again, but just NOT at this site!

Our first year back to camping for a few years, site is I suppose slightly better than average. Our main concern is that there are not enough shower cubicles, washing uo area is always busy and why do they seem to attract all the kids on bikes. We had a nice time overall and hope to return to this site again in the near future.

Small pitches, cars not sticking to 10km speed limit. Horrendously noisy at night especially the camps own very loud entertainment. Aside from this pool complex is good and play areas also good but would not return due to the noise every night until midnight. We have a 2 and 5 yr old
