“Modern hotel with spa”
Reviewed January 15, 2014 via mobile

We loved staying at this hotel with its modern architecture, french food and the spa. The rooms are clean and spacious with a balcony. We loved our spa treatment and the spa bath! Cabourg is a short walk over the promenade. We advise you to Go here!

Warm welcoming, very "auberge like" feeling despite the size of this hotel that opened not even a year ago! Very comfortable bed, good facilities, nice service, room and restaurant. But I'm forgetting what's most important, the SPA facilities are excellent and Cabourg is actually a lovely little beach resort in the heart of Normandy. Check out the restaurants in town, some are worth the 5 minute drive.

We travelled here on an Anna at voyage prive promotion. When we arrived we asked if a sea view room was possible as it was our 25 Th wedding anniversary. The girl on the desk was so accommodating and upgraded us at no cost for the 4 night stay . We visited the gym and had an excellent breakfast every day. Our first evening visit to the bar involved drinks and fantastic free nibbles with each round however for every subsequent evening the hotel was accommodating a Long haul Renault conference and the free nibbles were replaced by many men on a free bar not a fair switch in my opinion. As a consequence the focus shifted from the couples to the corporate group attendees. I have to say the view from our sea view room is one I will struggle to forget and the overall experience was 4 star but with a little more attention to reflect that paid to the corporate guests this would have made the experience easily the 5 star I feel the rooms and view deserve

Room Tip: Sea view worth every penny

This is a nice hotel, a little out of town but with a decent promenade so that you can easily walk into town in 15-20 minutes. It's fairly expensive to stay and breakfast was way too much extra so we didn't bother and purchased food from the supermarket instead. There is a small fridge in the room for storing your provisions. The rooms are not massive but are adequate.
The indoor salt water swimming pool is nice although not particularly suited to swimming. There are several stations around the pool with jets for massaging various muscles. There's a built in jacuzzi area but it unfortunately blows cold air to make the bubbles so you tend to get cold quickly in there.
My biggest gripe with the place is the housekeeping. For a start, when staying in a hotel charging €220 plus per room, I would expect proper cups/mugs and glasses to be provided rather than paper and plastic ones. Only 2 tiny cartons of milk were provided for a double room per day (although they weren't even replaced every day and had to be requested) and only 1 tea bag. Also, there is nowhere to dry towels so we ended up having ours changed daily to avoid having to use a damp towel in the evenings when preparing to go out.
Could be a great place to stay but needs some attention to detail, especially given the prices.

This hotel is located in a beautiful beach, that features a promenade so classic it is has a pre-war flavour, just like the pretty sea-front villas
It is a brand-new hotel, therefore its modern decoration is shinny and untouched somehow . The view you can enjoy from the restaurant or the terrace is truly nice , as it must be from the sea front rooms .
We booked what they present as “ superior room “, which is not superior at all, just average. Actually, less than average, it was “ petite” . The twin beds had problems fitting in, even though they were truly small . In fact, so small than they looked like a small double bed cut in two . So resting was a challenge . Even more when we discovered that our room´s little terrace was just upon the suppliers´ entrance . So we were sweetly woken up by the 7 am arrival of the noisy milk delivery truck .
The bathroom had a great size and was well appointed , though
The spa area was nice, and so was the beauty treatment I booked myself into . But everything was average- nice . Same for the buffet breakfast . If you take into account the fact that it is a large spa hotel, you might even label it a bit on the small side . And a bit stressing . Having around lots of staff cleaning tables while you listen to lounge-dynamic music is not conducive to a relaxing start of the day .
Another small feature : the restaurant´s menu, so poor it didn’t tempt us

Room Tip: Don´t choose the rooms on the left side, on top of the supplier´s entrance

We stayed three nights at the Hotel Les Bains de Cabourg. It is a beautiful new property with modern rooms and great location. We traveled by train from Paris to Caen, rented a car, and stayed centrally in Cabourg (about 20 mins drive from Caen) during our Normandy excursion. It is a great central location for D-Day sights (Omaha Beach, Utah Beach, American Cemetary) as well as close to great sights like Mont Saint Michael, Bayeaux, LIsieux, Honfleur.

Hotel review:
PROS-
The hotel is new, modern, and clean. We had an executive suite with beach views and it was spectacular. The bathroom had a tub that was perfect after a long day as well as a stand-up shower. The beds were very comfortable. The hotel is located right on the beach and the views are spectacular.

The salt water pool is fantastic! It is an indoor pool with great views of the ocean which has different hydrotherapy areas; lazy river, neck jets, full body jets, immersed chairs with light jets. We started every day with a great swim. There is also an outdoor pool.

CONS -
There is no luggage assistance so be aware that you will be carting your luggage to your rooms. Not an issue for most, but we are American women in France for two weeks shopping so you can imagine the ridiculous amount of heavy luggage in tow.

The indoor pool closes at 745pm which seems absolutely ridiculous.

We ordered room service twice and never received what we requested. One morning, we never received our breakfast regardless of three calls to room service. We went down to complain to the manager who set us up quickly for breakfast in the restaurant. It was a welcomed solution but inevitably impacted our travel schedule.

Wifi is free, but very slow and not available in all areas.

RESTAURANTS:
Cabourg has several Michelin rated restaurants. We went to Au Pied de Marais and were absolutely stunned by the delicious food, excellent service, and friendliness of the staff. The food was so good, we visited twice and were always pleased. The chocolate molten lava cake with carmel ice cream is a chocolate lovers dream. I cannot say enough about this delicious restaurant. It is about 800 meters from the hotel; A good walk or short drive.

SIGHTS TO SEE:
We met many lovely people at the hotel. Many were there for beach relaxation while others were touring the D-Day sights. Although I did not plan on touring Omaha Beach or the American Cemetary, we were drawn to it by local recommendations and it was a profound experience. If you were like me and watched shows like "Band of Brothers" every Sunday night in tears, you must visit. I dont have any words to describe the emotion. It is tremendously sad and impactful yet beautiful. My only grievance was the many beach sunbathers on Omaha Beach; It seems this should be sacred ground and seeing people partying on this beach was uncomforatable.

Mont Saint Michael is about 1.5 hrs drive from Cabourg. It is a very easy drive....with GPS. This is a must-see! Dont be intimidated by the stair-climbed to get to the top. It is a moderate climb with lots of places to rest. My 70 year old mom made it without problem....although a bit winded! The views are amazing.

Bayeux Tapestries and cathedral in Bayeux are amazing. My mom chose this one as I wasnt very interested in seeing a really long tapestery. How interesting can this be? I was shocked at the detail, the story it captured, the history.....it was incredible. The cathedral in lovely. There are plenty of little cafes for lunch and crepes and a lovely llittle town to explore. It is about 30 mins from Cabourg.

Liseux was another lovely little town to explore. The cathedral whre Saint. Terese attended is charming. The Basilica down the road is awe-inspiring. Another must-see. Learning about Saint Terese was something new for me.

Chateau de Breuil is a great place to visit just outside of Liseux. Take the 30 minute tour so you can learn about calvados and see the gorgeous grounds and chateau. You also get a free tasting of the aged calvados. Great fun especially for those who know nothing about apple brandy (like me!)

I wish you the best on your trip to Normandy. It is a remarkable place and well worth the visit!

Room Tip: Splurge and get a beach front room. Each has a deck and chairs. Watching the sunrise/sunset and waki...

This is a very modern and expansive multi-storey hotel. The room is clean, neat and new but typically not large. But the hotel’s spa and huge swimming pool is very well equipped and well staffed. However, it closes quite early. The hotel restaurant “Le Poisson d’Argent’‘ is very good value (has fixed menus and we paid E25 each for three courses) with large portions and a good wine selection. The hotel also has free wi-fi and parking at the front door. It’s a perfect base for day tripping to the Normandy beaches or other scenic spots such as Honfleur and Bayeux. Plus the spa facilities, included in the room price, are great to come back to after a day driving around.
