“Too much Art Brut”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

Free access offered to diabled visitor and a companion. The metro journey was part of the experience and bus drivers very helpful.

The building seemed to be mixture of British Elizabeth II defense establishment brickwork and some kind of organic concrete structure with sculptures effectively displayed in the grounds.

Fine collection of Picasso and others including a fine Modigliani. The large Art Brut bequest displayed in the new part of the building could have done with judicious pruning.

“To complement a trip to Lille”
Reviewed December 18, 2013

We drove about 20 minutes out of Lille ( watch out for the rush hour traffic!) and visited this Modern Art Museum. It's an interesting modern building, set in some greenery dotted with some huge sculptures ( I liked the one by Calder). The Museum is not too big, so you can see every room, without getting an overload of art...I especially liked the Art Brut section, which I was not too familiar with.
For the moment there is a good exhibition on - you have to pay 10 euros for this - about Picasso, Leger and some other artists that were shown in those days by some French art galleries.

“Worth the effort”
Reviewed December 4, 2013

The present special exhibition (including Picasso, Derain and Leger) is well worth the trip. Not sure of the scope of the permanent collection but clearly some good pictures and a large collection of "Art Bruit". Metro and a (half hourly on Sundays) bus ride. The cafe serves a pretty good lunch.

“Worth a visit, great collection”
Reviewed November 26, 2013

A large collection of Picasso's work is on show at the moment and is definitely worth the visit, great mix of traditional and contemporary. The layout of the place is interesting and the sculptures around the gallery are quite fantastic. We would of stayed for a cup of tea but the restaurant/café was so jam packed there was no room, which was strange as walking around the gallery is seemed very empty! so Id bring some lunch with you. its also 3 euros cheaper if you're under 25.

“a discovery”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

just a few minutes from lille by metro and bus, then a short walk through a park, we came upon the museum.
part of the collection is in the park along a walkway and path.
the collection was reduced to minimum because of a temporary exposition of a collection held by daniel kahnweiler. wow.
another exposition of art done by people interned in an asylum - art brut.
just in case, there is a cafe.
