“New life for old swimming pool”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

This museum has art and sculpture in the main gallery areas which are based around the pool. Stained glass is original to the building and the tiles are also kept and add interest to the displays. There is a very good section on the history of the fabric trade in Roubaix on the first floor.

“La Piscine Roubaix”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

Enjoyed this more than the Palais des Beaux arts in Lille. A great collection with many pictures and sculptures on a water/swimming theme from the period of the restored baths i.e 1930's onwards. A good collection of Picasso pottery and much more besides. Easy to reach from Lille by metro - about 20 mins- the tram takes longer & does not stop very near. A good restaurant inside- meals look a bit expensive but there are teas, coffees and pastries too. Shop quite small.

“Never mind the art, look at the setting”
Reviewed March 15, 2013

I have to confess I was underwhelmed by the collection at Roubaix's La Piscine gallery. There was a lot of heavy sculpture and genre paintings. The post-Impressionists were not of the highest quality. But the venue is definitely worth a detour. The former art deco municipal swimming pool has been transformed into a stunning exhibition space, bathed in light, and many original features - footbaths, changing cubicles - have been charmingly incorporated.
Admission free on the first Sunday of the month.

“Well worth the trip out of Lille.”
Reviewed March 7, 2013

Not knowing what to expect both my wife and I were speechless as to the standard of 'France's bests kept secret'. The use of the old swimming baths was inspired and the varied collection a true delight. You don't need to be an art aficionado to appreciate this wonderful, varied collection, there's something for everyone, sorry to be so gushing but it really is a wonderful place. How someone fron New York gave it a poor revue is beyond me? From tiny children to your great granny and everyone in between there's something to see and marvel at, inspire and remember. Having done all the great and good museums around the world this has to be one of the best municipal collections in a marvellous Art Deco building. Don't miss this place. To balance up things the cafe was a total rip off, a cup to tea €5, come on La Piscine Musee d'art et d'industrie don't bite the hand that feed you!

“Beautiful location!”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

The windows of the place are amazing! And it's a superlocation to look at some art. The normal exhibition isnt so great. But somethimes they do extra exhibitions in the space next to the entrance! So make sure you plan your visit wisely and look at the website before you visit!
Not far from the trainstation.
