“excellent hotel near centre of town”
Reviewed May 16, 2013

stayed here for one night, very clean comfortable hotel, enormous bed in our room, lovely amenities - bar area etc. drove into the centre as its a bit of a walk. Staff at the hotel were really helpful and knew the area well, spoke brilliant english, and were very kind. a good sized parking area and the hotel is quiet and off the main road, would definitely recommend it.

This hotel is a real hidden gem. It's unique, quirky and has lots of character. The boutique-style rooms are nicely decorated and our bathroom was large. Dinner was not cheap but very good quality, and the buffet breakfast was well worth paying for. We stayed overnight in Cambrai en-route to Reims. The road the hotel is situated on is quite run-down so we were a little worried when we arrived. But as soon as we got into the hotel, we were pleased we chose to stay there.

My wife and I spent four nights at the Hotel Beatus using it as a base to visit the WW1 battlefields in the Somme and Arras sectors. We were not disappointed. Having a ground floor superior room with french windows opening onto the garden (plus two outdoor chairs and table) was an unexpected bonus and was ideal for sitting out and relaxing.

The hotel is situated just south of the town centre, next to the main hospital and sits in its own grounds which includes a large car park. Being situated away from the road there was no noise. Access is easy with signs to both the hotel and hospital being displayed as soon as you enter Cambrai from the motorway.

We eat in the hotel on two nights, the restaurant is closed at weekends and bank holidays but excellent alternatives in Cambrai were suggested by the hotel staff. The food on the restaurant was excellent with a good choice of fixed price menus or a la carte. The selection of wine was also good. The staff at reception always had time to talk to you, asking what you had planned for the day and on returning how your day went.

Added to this, for anyone interested in WW1 tanks, the hotel's owner, Philippe, is an expert who found a Mark IV Female called "Deborah" buried in a nearby village some years ago. It has since been recovered and is owned by Philippe. We had the privilege of a private visit to see "Deborah" (which is not currently on public display) during which Phillipe explained "her" history and the part she played in the 1917 Battle of Cambrai.

Very highly recommended.

A superb place to stay. I stayed in room 12 which was excellent. The room was large, clean and had a bath and shower. I slept very well on each of the 4 nights of my stay.
If you are visting the battlefield or have an interest in tanks then this is the place to stay. The owner, Philippe, is always willing to talk to you about the Great War or tanks in general.
The staff are all very friendly and all speak good English.
The hotel is very easy to find if you use the new ring road and enter Cambrai on the Avenue de Paris (St. Quentin roundabout from the ring road).
Breakfast is 10E50 but you get lots to eat. I ate at the hotel each night. It is not cheap and the food is good but my waffle was shocking.
I will stay at the hotel when I am next in the area. To me this is the only place to stay if visiting Cambrai for the battlefields. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Room 12 is at the end of a corridor that is not a through route to anywhere so there was no passing...

The Beatus hotel, well, who would think that behind the bustling road to St. Quentin lies a veritable oasis? Set in wonderful grounds, this lovely hotel with the colonial window shutters is ready to welcome the tired traveller. You are welcomed by the staff, all of whom can speak English. Your rooms are all individually decorated in different colours. Some of the showers take some getting used to, there are no curtains, but Hey Ho, why not try something different. The restaurant is welcoming also with beautiful table linen, and the food is just a gastronimic delight with every course served. The owner Philippe is usually on hand to talk to you, You should ask him about the British MkIV tank he discovered buried from the Battle of Cambrai. Tank Deborah is proudly displayed in a little village just outside Cambrai. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who enjoys good living.

The Beatus is a comfortable, clean hotel with friendly service. Although it is close to the town, it is quiet. My room was fine and I slept well in a single room with king bed. It was a Saturday night and the restaurant was closed for dinner but we were given an excellent recommendation for a restaurant (Chez Dan) within 10 minutes walk.
It is well placed for touring the Great War battlefields between Mons and Cambrai. Indeed the owner, Philippe, is the enthusiast behind the conservation of 'Deborah' - an early tank recovered from the 1917 battlefield. This is one of my favourite French hotels.

Traveled with 2 kids, 6 and 9. Stayed in Room 27 en route to Paris and had to stop there again on the way back. The family room had a king bed and a double bed separated by the bathroom. Bathroom was nice and clean with separate shower and tub. Water pressure was very strong.

Breakfast was like a feast for us : bread, croissants, fancy jams, butter, hot chocolate for kids, cereal, poached eggs, ham, cheese, bacon -- all wonderful things that will fill you up till past lunchtime.
