Owner description: This 19th-century cathedral sits above the longest crypt in France.

As usually happens when we try to visit a cathedral (anywhere in the world, not just France!) part, or all of it, is undergoing repair. On this occasion, only workmen could enter either the main building or the crypt, so we were completely out of luck. It looks impressive from the outside and when viewed from the ramparts walk though....

It's the most well known landmark of Boulogne-sur-Mer.
It's situated on top of the hill in old town, wherever you're in Boulogne-sur-Mer, you can see it from distance.
It's old, big, rundown. I guess it needs serious renovation. Probably it's not " must see ", specially for whom not really into visiting churches or interested in architectures, but if you're in town, why not.

After many visits to Boulogne, at last got to l'Eglise. There was the usual 'closed for lunch' notice, but the door was open and others were going in. Fantastic dome, and a beautiful church. There is a major restauration of the crypt underway. The Rue de Lille area is worth walking around, being the heart of the old town.

Worth a visit when visiting this area but it is quite tatty and is in need of renovation. Tie it in with a visit to the chateau

Needs major refurb, but interesting history and amazing design for the year i was built. Only draw back was in typical French fashion everyone had gone to lunch for the 12.30 - 1530 normal lunch hour so no one was around to answer questions
