“Good stop over place.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2012 via mobile

We have been to Boulogne on many occasions but have never stayed in this bed and breakfast. Maybe I wasn't in the best frame of mind when we arrived following a 300 mile trip from central France and arrival in the pouring rain. Having parked in the adjacent free carpark we got absolutely soaked. We checked in at the reception desk and was then asked for my mobile number, which I can never remember, before we would be shown to our rooms. The reason for this was not explained and being dripping wet and cold found this irritating.
The room was across the courtyard and up a flight of stairs. The hallway and corridor smelt very musty not at all fresh. The room itself was large with a large bathroom and separate W.C which were all very clean. However saying that the room was quite tired looking with paint peeling off the radiators.
Breakfast was quite nice and it was good that it was included in the price. Would have been nice if there was a little more choice.
Contrary to another review this September the hotel does accept credit cards as we paid with one.
To sum it up I don't think that we would use this place again, however it does appear to suit alot of other people.

This hotel is good value for what you pay, very large rooms but in need of updating. Lovely Breakfast room and very good food in the evening. Free parking right next door and the old town is well worth a visit. Lovely walk around the castle keep which took about 20mins and gave us some good views over Boulogne.

Just an overnight stop with Eurotunnel. Great position close to many bars and restaurants, but still nice & quiet. Stayed in Norway Room, which was up 2 flights of very steep and windy stairs. Large room with huge bathroom, but no bath, just a shower cubicle lost in the corner. Clean and rather spartan. Rather stuffy and old fashioned especially in the dining room. Breakfast was good cold buffet with cheeses fruit & preserves. Very little atmosphere, glad we ventured out for dinner. Would have been nicer in summer as you could eat breakfast outside. Tea and coffee in room, but absolute minimum of supplies, same with toiletries. Overall clean but only with the bare neccessaties.

We really enjoyed this hotel / inn. It is in a beautiful old section of town, next to the cathedral. Parking is easy in the lot directly next door. Our room was very large overlooking the courtyard. We could open the windows and the weather was perfect. The owners and staff do not speak much English as expected, and our French is very limited so we all had to make due. Everyone did just fine! The restaurant was closed for lunch and dinner. The chef was ill or had an emergency. So we ate at one of the many restaurants within walking distance. The town square is close, vibrant and fun. Lots of people out and about in the afternoon. We stopped at Naussica for a quick look. Neat place. It was crowded but worth seeing. The coastline here is beautiful. Lovely town. Please note that the hotel did not accept credit cards. Bring cash!

Room Tip: We were on the second floor facing the courtyard. Great!

I booked this hotel (booking.com) after reading some very good reviews on Trip Advisor for a 1 night stay in Boulogne for my husband & our 2 friends.
Our initial impression was one of delight at the location of the hotel and we easily found a free parking space in a nearby car park!
We were met by a friendly receptionist who showed us our rooms, one of which was not ready (though, we were a little early).
The overall décor is a bit tired & shabby with a musty smell in some of the corridors. Our bedrooms whilst clean had wallpaper hanging off the walls, paint peeling off the radiators and the shower cubicles had black mould on the tiles. Our friends shower head kept rotating round.
The hotel advertises free wifi in all the rooms - we attempted to log onto our laptop but couldn't. Infact no information at all! tried calling reception - no phone no's.This is the first hotel that I have ever stopped in and there has not been a information booklet in the room!
We tried to find a member of staff - nobody available (not even on the reception desk).
We had arranged that we take breakfast early next morning - on making our way downstairs we discovered that every door was locked. Eventually after knocking on several doors a member of staff appeared and opened up the dining room.
Breakfast was very poor - fruit salad that had probably been made a few days earlier and had a strange taste to it!-the melon was slimy. Croissants that had been left in the oven too long - dark brown in colour! Not very nice preserves (no taste) & really of poor quality.
In summary I sense the hotel lacks leadership & investment in order to bring it up to a better standard that it so rightly deserves.

We stayed here last night and we were very pleased with our choice. The old town in Boulogne sur mer is charming and this B&B is in a great location at the top of the old town. The property is nicely decorated and fits in well with the town's surroundings, it has a lovely courtyard and the entrance/foyer is very nice. The bedroom and bathroom were spacious and comfortable.

We didn't eat at the restaurant as we had booked another restaurant called Grilladine (which was very nice) although the menu looks very good here.
Breakfast is fine, however it could be better if they included some meat or eggs. They served fresh orange juice which was delicious!

If visiting Boulogne Sur Mer, I would recommend staying in the old town which is surrounded by castle walls, the new part of the town isn't very picturesque.

We had a drink in the oldest building which is a small pub called Volehole which is full of charm with very welcoming locals.

Overall, I would definitely recommend staying here and hopefully some day I will return, coming from England I felt like I had stepped back in time into a little French village and this accommodation really added to the charm.

We stayed here one night in July while following the Tour de France – it didn’t get off to a great start because we couldn’t get to the free car park next door to the hotel as the roads were all closed off (we weren’t forewarned, but fortunately had an idea it would be so, having followed other TDF stages). The owners did however let us park our bikes in the lovely terrace garden at the front of the hotel.

The hotel is just 290 metres from the Château de Boulogne-sur-Mer and is a19th-century building in the heart of the old town. We had a deluxe room which was very large, with a high ceiling, lovely mirror and antique chest of drawers and an equally large bathroom; we also had tea and coffee making facilities and a flat screen tv. Each of the 5 rooms is decorated with references to famous historical figures from the area.

I would summarise this hotel as having plenty of character and heritage, with beautiful old-style furniture and decor. It is elegant and sophisticated. Staff were not English speaking. We received a brusque welcome, due to our early arrival – they say not to check in until after 1730 and we arrived around midday. We were given keys, codes and a map, but were not made to feel welcome to dine, being firmly told on arrival that the restaurant was fermé. Breakfast was average; there were very nice home-made preserves, but not a selection of breads, cheeses or meats.

All in all I think this is a charming hotel in a fantastic part of the old town. I think it is more suited to a mature couple – we were on a city break and I think my review reflects that this beautiful, quiet place was probably the wrong choice for us, rather than the other way round.

Room Tip: The deluxe room is worth it.
