Description: Le Chatillon restaurant in the heart of Boulogne’s Capecure attracts everyone in town for the freshest of fish and great atmosphere. The bubbling ground floor dining room will remind you of the interior of an antique fishing vessel with wooden bar, pictures of old Boulogne and copper detailing, while the first floor space is more serene, though prices go up a notch too. M. Baude was a fish dealer in a past incarnation, so he only serves the highest quality fish and crustaceans. This atmospheric restaurant gives the true flavour of the old fishing port.

As it says in the title.Get away from the tourists and enjoy grreat value fresh fish.

As for Finbar, try to understand the French mentallity. In France it is considered rude to break off in mid conversation with someone, and even ruder to butt in to ask a question when somebody is having a conversation. Just wait until they have finished, and you will normally be treated with politeness. this is often the cause of so many Anglo Saxons finding the French rude...they are not...it's just different customs.

Well hidden little gem in the heart of Capecure, Boulogne sur Mer.
The outside of this fish restaurant is nothing to write home about however once through the doors it is a different world.
We were greeted by a welcoming French waiter who spoke a little English, far more than we spoke French.
He explained the menu and whilst contemplating the appetising various fish dishes we ordered the house white wine which was very palate able and nicely chilled.
The atmosphere was very buzzy we appeared to be the only Brits in at the time but we were made to feel very welcome.
We had starters of scallops with mushrooms and a selection of cold smoked fishes with potato salad and a creamy dill sauce. The combination of flavours were exquisite .
We asked that our main courses be served after a break and more wine as the starters were a meal in themselves.
The Skate and Ray wing was incredibly fresh and fell off the bone, can honestly say have never had fish like it.
How we managed a sweet of creme brûlée I do not know.
The opening ours are a little quirky as they predominantly cater for the fisherman but all are welcome from 5am - 4pm.
Total price for our meal was 54euro which included 2 carafes of wine, incredibly good value for high class food.
Will certainly visit again.

Le Chatillon, which is hard to find in the middle of Capecure, the fish-canning sector of Boulogne sur Mer, is a genuine family restaurant, serving mainly fish to the fish experts from the fish industry that surrounds it. Excellent value at around 20 euros for a 3-course fairly extensive table-d'hote meal, this restaurant is almost always packed and booking (possibly only on the day) is essential, despite its large capacity. I see Finbar S has criticised the waiters but I think they are stupendous - in the downstairs room two or three staff serve about 120 covers, yet you never have to wait and they are always friendly and polite. I and my wife go there about once every couple of months but they remember our names. My only criticisms are that the vegetables could be more interesting and they are not open in the evenings or weekends (except for the first Sunday in every month and one or two special days). The food at le Chatillon is not haute cuisine (you should go to La Matelote for that) but the fish is as fresh as it gets and is always perfectly cooked. What more could you want?

Probably the hardest restaurant to find. In the middle of the industrial part of Boulogne's fishing fraternity this is a real jewel of a restaurant. The 20 euro set menu is full of great fishy treats - the atmosphere is buzzing. Note this restaurant opens up at 4am and closes around 2pm. Originally for the sole use of local fishermen it has now opened it's doors to all - thank god for that - it really is quite superb.
