The hotel is basic. 2 star covers it nicely. Clean and comfortable but very basic. The location is ideal being right on the square. We booked three rooms which were all quite small. The owner was pleasent but hovvered around whenever we were in the foyer.
The stairs are steep and tight, with no lift recommend you travel light.
Location good, prices average, hotel dated.

We droveinto the main square of Arras after coming from visiting war graves in the Somme.
As we did not have a hotel booked we luckily found a car park in the top of the square, and noticed a hotel sign. Being right on this fabulous square we imagined that the prices would be huge, but they were listed on the front window and we found them lower than most 2 or 3 star hotels we had been staying in.We were lucky to get a front room with big french windows opening onto the square on the first floor. There are no lifts, so minimal baggage is best. The owner speaks good english, and offers coffee, juice and soft drinks at all times for you to help yourself, A very historic building but in clean and good condion, and wow.. what a position.

Room Tip: ask for ist floor overlooking the square

Fantastic location - overlooking the historic central square (there are two squares, adjacent to each other but this particular one is the nicer of the two). The square is home to a variety of character restaurants, pubs and shops each reflecting the Flemish architecture of the period. The hotel is cozy and has loads of character as well, feels more like a residence than a hotel. The owner/operator is a helpful and genuine individual. The service is top quality as is the food that is available.

Room Tip: ask for a view of the square.

Arrived from CDG, quite tired. the proprietor was helpful as we had two large suitcases. A tiny room-we're familiar with this but there wasn't even a chair -the room is so small. Hardly any place to put anything. Didn't get any replacement towels (there weren't any in the little storage closet) and really had to go through a grilling to get some.
Had to look about on a patio drinking beer for longer than we wanted because we dreaded going back in there. Our first night we had to listen to endless talk and laughter from an apartment directly behind our room but that's life.
The bed was very comfortable.
The breakfast was great!
Refreshments offered upon arrival along with a large bottle of water for our room.
Convenient parking free from 6pm to 9 am. (2 hrs. max otherwise).
Ever present owner who tried to be helpful and somewhat pleasant.
Excellent location for exploring-we walked to the Wellington Quarry-an excellent tour I might add.

The Hotel Diamant is just like home from home. It is not glamorous but is oh so cosy. The Proprietor goes out of his way to make you welcome with soft drinks on tap for most of the day. Our room overlooked the most beautiful Place des Heroes. The building is typically Flemish so the rooms are quite small but somehow everything fits. The stairs are quite narrow and there is no lift but again, in this hotel it doesn't really matter. The continental breakfast was a superb and the Proprietor was always on hand to replenish and make sure you had what you wanted.
This hotel has made us determined to visit Arras again and stay longer next time.

Room Tip: When booking, ask for a room overlooking the square.

We spent two nights in this hotel. It's definitely a two star hotel. In fairness everything was clean and tidy, and the breakfast was nice. The location and view of the Place are excellent. Our room was on the top floor. It was small, although not as small as many Paris hotels. The hotel has an amazing setting, and could be fantastic with some work. If you like the dated 70's look thid is the place for you! The owner himself seems to be around all the time, and expouses a certain 'business like' approach, which I found unsettling.

I was willing to give the place a chance as my wife wanted to stay there. I couldnt really have any major faults regarding the hotel itself. Everything was clean. And once you know you will be staying in a basic hotel you wont be disappointed, even if the prices charged are anything but 2 star rates. The one major fault I would have is noise. It's situated on the Place, which is unbearably noisey at night. The rooms are not air conditioned and since both nights were warm we had to open the windows. I must add that I knew it might be noisey, but I really hadnt thought it would be this bad. Two nights in Soho or Leicester Square would have allowed me to enjoy more sleep.

All in all I would'nt return. The hotel is fine, I could'nt fault its two star rating. Location is great on the one hand but an absolute nightmare for those of you attached to your sleep.

We called in whilst travelling through northern France one Saturday lunchtime and they only had one room left. The room we had was at the back with not a great view, but it was very nice and clean. The hotel does have rooms overlooking the town hall and Place des Heros
Service was excellent with friendly and helpful staff.
Hotel has a breakfast room which doubles as a lounge by day, with free tea, coffee and soft drinks/mineral water. Breakfast is paid for separately but is help yourself buffet style which was well presented and plenty of choice. You are served with tea, coffee, and juice, with as many refills as you like.
The hotel does not have any parking and daytime parking by the town hall is limited by time. Try the underground car park around the corner in the Grand Place.
The Place des Heros is great for a drink or a meal. Plenty going on with a typical French atmosphere. Plenty to do in Arras, with a trip to the top of the belfry a must for those not scared of heights.
