The guide was very good made the tour enjoyable it was quite a zany tour not what we,expected. You need to go on the tour to experience it's uniqueness

I thought the caves were tacky, uninteresting and could not recommend them unless you were really clutching at straws - much better things to do i the area!
It is interesting to realise that there are old quarries right under the town of Arras and in this case under the town hall/square. This was a guided tour. The quarry caves were well lit and artificial gardens, with plants from all over the world have been created in the caves, tended by a full time gardener.
We participated in this tour out of curiosity - didn't really have any great expectations but most of the gardens were quite colourful and rather more attractive than anticipated.
The tour was well presented and easily accessible from the Town Hall. There are some steps so it is probably not ideal for the very young or for the infirm.
A tour is available out of the garden season but I would imagine that this would be a little dull. Certainly, I would only do this to see the gardens. To experience the tunnels I would suggest that the Wellington quarries tour is more rewarding.
This tour starts in the basement under the town hall (tickets from tourist office in ground floor). Takes about 50 mins and for 4 months of the year (Jan-apr) it shows a series of gardens that change every year. in April 2014 it was very enjoyable - gardens for Brazil, Europe, Mexico, Zen, Asia etc. Well worth seeing, but perhaps 5-10 minutes too long. Rest of the year the tour apparently focuses more on the military aspects of the tunnels.
