Following previous recommendations we specfically went looking for Le Carpe Diem and were not dissappointed. Whilst the place was very quiet when we first got there around 7pm over the evening there was a constant procession of locals and visitors which together with the lovely rustique decor gave the place a great buzz.
Service was warm and friendly and our meals (salads followed by steak and beef in beer stew) were both delicious and reasonable portions. My partner declared the tarte tatin the best they had ever had - and there have been many!
As per usual we ordered a "carafe d'eau" rather than paying for expensive bottled water and this was not a problem.
Location wise its about 5-10mins walk from the main grand place square (free parking in the evenings) and well worth seeking out away from main touristy restaurants on the square which seemed either to be pizza joints or expensive.
Definitley recommended and somewhere we will be going back to when we return to Arras when the weather gets warmer!
