We have crossed this wonder of engineering many times and are always gob-smacked by it.
The best approach is going south. You cruise round a long bend on the autoroute and there in the distance is a sight to remember. Just amazing, and no wonder the French are proud of it. (Why are the French so good at spectacular bridges? The one across the Loire at Nantes, The one to the Isle de Re, Crossing the Gorges de Verdon,.... there are so many).
Always well worth the toll fee just to drive across, and the views are spectacular.

I love bridges and this is one of the most beautiful I have seen in person. It was the main attraction for our trip to the midi-Pyrennes and it did not disappoint! An amazing architectural wonder.

Our second time in five years to visit this amazing engineering feat and well worth the effort - but, don't go to the toilet at the main visitors centre. This is a new building with a special area displaying some lovely arts/crafts by local artisans. However, the only toilets are in a block in the carpark. The womens ones are the "two feet and a hole in the ground" type. Washbasins, but no soap and no way to dry hands. Not very clean either.
After spending all that money on a very upmarket visitors centre, it is quite incredible that noone thought to upgrade the toilets - probably used by most visitors - or even have them cleaned regularly.
No, not really the worst in France, but nowhere the standard they should be in 2013.

We were staying in Avignon and drove 200 km for a day trip. We came into the town of Millau from the south and driving through the Tarn Gorge itself, was spectacular. The views of Millau Bridge were stunning . It was shrouded in cloud at times. The little town of Millau is beautiful and worth stopping to see. We then drove from North to South stopping at the lookout on the North side. It is a steep walk from the car park but well worth the fantastic views of such an amazing bridge. It is hard to imagine how they built something as high as the Eiffel Tower in places. Well worth the trip.

This is highest bridge in Europe, good viewing centres on top and bottom of bridge. Well worth stopping off for.
