My husband had talked about the bridge for ages and so we decided travelling back through France we would ride the viaduct. There is in the north slope an observation point which has stunning views of the valley.

It was a sunny day and the skies were clear. We stopped at the museum showing the construction of the bridge and it was fascinating. Bikers love riding the viaduct when it's cloudy as you feel as if your riding on the clouds and is a sense only to be experienced. When you see he bridge in clouds, you sense the eery quality and very surreal feeling.

You have to pay a toll to travel the viaduct and it was something only to be witnessed oneself. The views are amazing either way.

If you are on the area, take a detour and try the viaduct for yourself. I am sure you will be amazed as we were.

Worth a detour, and worth using too! There is also an exhibition available on the viaduct and on the region.

On the North slope of the valley there is an observation area, called Aire de Millau. That's where everybody takes pictures. If you want something more impressive and are ready to sacrifice one or two hours, you can go down to the valley and take pictures from below.
Find on Google maps any of the three roads: Av. de Saint-Affrique (D992), D41 or D41A. The sure way to get there is through the city of Millau. Using the exit from A75 to D911 on the north side of the valley would be faster.

We stopped at the layby going south just before the bridge and there is a museum on the first floor dedicated to the construction. How they even conceived the design and the feasibility of constructing it is mind-blowing enough. But when you see how it was actually done, and so quickly, it is even better. Well worth an hour's stop to see this wonder of the modern world and thank you Lord Foster for showing the French how to build a bridge every bit as inspirational as the last one 'nearby' designed by the Romans at Pont du Gard.

A must see in the Center of France. I love crossing the viaduc even if the cost is a bit on the plus side, it's worth the thrill.
The belvedere are also great for a good snap shot.
