I had read reviews before I travelled, and can only say that all the 5 star reports were correct.
Peter and Mark are so friendly and helpful and their Hotel is fabulous. The towels and bedding are to die for, and the lovely fresh food served for breakfast is the best.

We did have a wonderful meal with them, but they were also really helpful telling us where else to eat in the locality. They really made you feel that they wanted to help you as much as possible.

Room Tip: I don't think you could choose a bad one.

My husband and I spent four nights at Villa de Mazamet in October 2012. Our stay was wonderful and was more than we had wished for. Peter and Mark are great hosts. The villa has been lovingly restored and the rooms are very comfortable, spacious and very clean. The meals were spectacular and the produce was sourced from local farms.

Peter and Mark were very knowledgeable about the area and were able to assist us by providing us with maps of various routes in the area together with supporting information.

Thank you Peter and Mark. Hopefully other travelers will get as much pleasure as we did...

Many thanks for taking the time to add a review after your stay with us, we really appreciate your kind comments.

It is pleasing to read that you found La Villa comfortable, spacious & clean - and that you appreciated our restoration too.

From 2005-2009 the restoration was certain a labour of love for us; we wanted to ensure that all of the original features of the property were maintained for our future guests to enjoy and it has certainly been worth it from the wonderful feedback we receive.

We do take a great pride in the local area too - the quieter winter months allows us to explore more ourselves so that we can recommend to future guests new places to visit, eat & see in the region (we are currently in the processes of writing up additional self-drive day tours for 2013).

Thank you once again for choosing to stay with us at La Villa and we look forward to welcoming you both again in the future.

We stayed 4 nights in September, and I can echo the previous 5 star reviews.

This place is a bargain

La Villa DeMazamet is located only a short walk to the train station, which takes you eveywhere.
It is also located only a short walk from a lovely little town with pleasant and fhelpful merchants and restaurants.

The hosts, Peter & Mark, are also quite an asset to your stay here.
They seem to evrything about whever you want to go or do--real travel agent types

But we all know nothing and nobdy is perfect, and this applies to La Villa De Mazamet too.
However we only stayed 4 days-- so I think you'll have to stay much longer than that to find some imperfection.

Many thanks for taking the time to add a review after your stay with us, we really appreciate your kind comments.

We are pleased to read that you found La Villa "a bargain" - we like to feel that we provide excellent value for money, appreciating that guests have so many potential places they could have chosen to stay whilst visiting the region.

Many guests, like yourself, comment on our location and enjoy the ability to walk into the centre of town to soak up the atmosphere of the market, enjoy a morning coffee, browse the shops, or have a meal.

As you rightly suggest, 'nothing & nobody is perfect' - however we continually strive for perfection and a major component of this is taking on board and implementing guests feedback on how we can improve La Villa, our facilities & our service.

Thank you again for choosing to stay with us and hope we may see you again when your travels bring you back across the Atlantic to Europe.

My wife and I spent two nights at the Villa de Mazamet (9th and 10th October 2012) and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Our hosts, Mark and Peter, had lovingly restored a beautiful old villa near the centre of town, and paid immense attention to every detail to ensure that their guests were magnificently catered for. The accommodation was supremely comfortable and spacious as well as being aesthetically pleasing. The food showed the same fanatical attention to detail. Impossible to do justice to this place in a brief summary: just go there and enjoy the experience!

We are pleased to read that you enjoyed your two-nights with us and our accommodation extremely comfortable & spacious.

Late autumn is one of our favourite times of year in SW France where we still can have nice warm days and then, during the evening, log-fires in the lounge & restaurant.

Thank you once again for choosing to stay with us and we hope that we may welcome you back to La Villa when you are next in the area.

We loved our two night stay at La Villa de Mazamet. Mark and Peter are fantastic - their hospitality and attention to detail are first class! They clearly put a lot of time and effort into ensuring all of their guests have a fabulous stay. Welcome drinks, delicious dinner, knowledgable about the area - faultless. Our bedroom and bathroom were spacious and quite grand - the building is beautiful. We also made use of the spa facilities, which were perfect for a rainy afternoon. We were disappointed to have only spent two nights at La Villa and will definitely be back soon! [ps. Peter and Mark - wanted to let you know that Emma and I got engaged last week! The mood was clearly set on our wonderful holiday in France!]

Sept 21-24, 2012

We spent three near perfect nights at La Villa Mazamet. Had I known how absolutely devine it was, I would have no hesitation to extend my stay.
We arrived later than expected at 8:00 PM, but we were all sitting at the dinner table by 8:20 after a quick unpacking and freshening. Our hosts, Peter and Mark, were very attentive to our individual problems and needs and prepared, as well as well-equipped, to handle any emergency. Whether it was day trip planning, discussion of the night's menu, laundry requests, or proper table etiquette, they were happy to interject their wisdom. We trusted their judgement and decisions.
There were small instances that I remember: Their refreshing blanquette de Limoux aperitif, the carefully folded laundry on the bed, tagging along with Peter to fetch the morning pastries and bread, high quality of the fruits and provisions (especially memorable was the organic apple juice), not bothering to lock the door (they are very conscious of maintaining security), and the much-discussed lemon mousse. Peter knew exactly the source of his provisions--sometimes he knew the owner of a farm.
The room was huge and scrupulously clean. A ensuite bathroom was elegantly restored, even the separate hot and cold faucets without a mixer. I did not mind.
We chose the demi-pension plan that included both breakfast and dinner. That was a very wise choice because of not only the value, but also there were no other options in Mazamet, which is not a very pretty town. I walked the 1/4 mile into the center-ville of Mazamet and was not impressed. However, there is a lovely park at the end of the street that is worth a look.
In retrospect, many of us felt that this stay was the best of the trip.

Many thanks for taking the time to add a review after your exclusive use of La Villa de Mazamet for your group, we really appreciate your kind comments.

We both thoroughly enjoyed hosting your 12 Hawaiian friends at La Villa, as part of your (from memory) 22 nights touring France. It is so gratifying to read that not only did you find near perfection in La Villa but that many of the group felt we provided the best stay of your entire trip.

With so many places you could have chosen to stay whilst in France, we are very fortunate that you decided to make us a port of call and we enjoyed engaging with your friends between a packed schedule of sightseeing tours.

Whilst we very much appreciate that you booked with us on a dinner bed & breakfast basis for your three-night stay, we were a little surprised to read that you felt there were no other dining options available in Mazamet. Within a five minute walk of La Villa are at least five eateries regularly patronised & enjoyed by our guests - however, with your walk into town being at 5.30am, we can understand these may not have been obvious as nothing is open at that time of day.

Similarly, we were a little sad to read that you were not impressed with the centre of town and felt that Mazamet was not "pretty". Again, with your only venture into town being at 5.30am and your day trips taking you out of Mazamet each day from 8,30am until 7pm, we can understand that you did not have time to explore the many different facets of the town; the beautiful buildings that make up the two short architectural tours, the markets and the stunning location at the foot of the Montage Noire mountain range, etc.

Thank you once again for choosing to stay at La Villa and we very much hope that you will come back as a group, or individually, when your travels next return you to France.

We stayed for 3 nights in September and wished we had booked a full week. Mark and Peter could conduct classes on how to run a bed and breakfast! From the moment we walked in, Mark greeted us and made us feel so welcome. He brought us a welcoming glass of wine and sat down with us once we were settled in to help us plan our 3 days. Mark and Peter have set up 7 fully detailed itineraries: each different, complete with maps, restaurants, etc. All of it printed out so you can take it along with you! This was just one of the many wonderful, thoughtful touches.

The building itself is a beautiful, stately, well restored villa. The decor is refined luxury. In particular the beds and the incredibly soft linens! I had my best sleep here of my entire 22 night trip. The bathrooms are also spacious and beautifully restored.

The food.... was also excellent. Breakfast was simple, but everything you could want. Fresh yogurt, fruit, jams, meats, cheese and the best breads you could imagine -I am sure they are brought in fresh each morning. We had one dinner at the villa, and Peter is truly a wonderful chef. Even the wine list was great - so good that we sought out one of the wines afterward and bought several bottles for the remainder of the trip.

Finally the area and location. Mazamet is a small town, centrally located with easy access to many day trips. There are plenty of good restaurants in the town, We spent a full day in Albi, and could have easily spent more time there. On our return from Albi we stopped in at the perched village of Cordes Sur Ciel, amazing to walk along the cobblestones from the 1200's and wonder who had walked there before us! On our way back to the villa from Cordes, we made a wrong turn and had the most memorable drive of our vacation through the endless rows of vineyards. We could literally have picked grapes from the vines as we drove along narrow roadways that were brimming with farm equipment gearing up for the harvest. It made me remember the saying that on every vacation you should get lost once! The following day we went to Las Tours and Carcassone which were something to see, but we definitely preferred Albi.
Every evening when we returned to the villa. Mark or Peter would greet us and see if we needed anything for that evening or the next day. Always so helpful!
As we packed our bags and said our goodbyes, we hoped that we could return to this beautiful villa. Thank you Mark and Peter!!

Many thanks for taking the time to add a review after your stay with us, we really appreciate your kind comments.

It is so pleasing to read how much your enjoyed your time with us at La Villa, from our food to the town itself.

Many guests comment on how our location provides the best of both worlds - a very quiet residential area yet five minutes' walk into the centre of the town; as well as being centrally located to explore all that the region has to offer.

Albi is certainly one of our favourite places to visit as it provides so much to see and do - and a contrast to some of the smaller medieval villages. In writing and planning our seven self-drive day tours, we have tried to give our guests a complete overview of the region (appreciating that, for many, it is their first time here), highlighting the "must see" places as well as a teaser for that return trip - which we certainly hope you will be able to do!

Thank you once again for finding us and we hope that, when your travels next bring you across the Atlantic, we may welcome you back to La VIlla.
