If you go to cauterets, you should not miss a trip to the lac de gaube, drive to the pont d'espagne car park 5 euro for the day,Hyke or take the cable car to the ski lift.
Pop on the ski lift taking you up to the top(15,20 minutes journey) and after walk for 15 minutes to the most stunning place in the Hautes Pyrenees the Lac De Gaube.

Beautiful walk up from Pont d'Espagne to a lake with the view of a glacier. Very cold water in the lake.

Take the chair lift to the top, then an easy walk to the lac de Gaube. Beautiful blue water, freezing cold though, and free mountain mineral water at the brasserie. We decided to walk back to the carpark via the track, again reasonnably easy (just a couple of big steps). If you buy the ticket for the lake and Pont d'Espagne, the fee includes the parking fee.

Very easy to reach (navetta + cable car, and then a 15-min walk, the road is straight ad convenient), this is the mountain lakeof rare beauty, wonderful color of waterm and a refuge nearby that also hosts a restaurant. From lac de Gaube you can either descend to the valley by foot, return with the same route or start somewhat more difficult walks to Refuge Oulettes de Gaube. The road is long, but the views magnificent.

Definitely worth a trip- take the steep (but not overly so) 1 hr hike to the base of the lake for the most amazing views. Bring a picnic
