Perched high on a mountainside above Cauteret ski town is Benques. I’ve eaten there several times, both over the summer and the winter and all times have been fantastic.
The outside seating is a must in the summer when the weather is hot, the area is really nicely designed and has a wonderful and elegant feel. Inside the restaurant is designed with lots of natural wood and stone, finished in a modernist style and it’s got great views up the mountain side.
The food is excellent and represents excellent value for money, and certainly in that setting and kind of restaurant you’d expect to pay much more. I especially like their lunchtime plat du jour, last week it was just 16 euro for four courses and included lobster bisque shot with cauliflower toasts and black olive tapenade, avocado and walnuts with Serrano ham and carrot and cumin puree.
Delicious, relaxed and great service – a must visit if you’re in the area.
