Barbotan-les-Thermes is a summer village set in beautiful countryside in Gascony. The Fleur de Lees is on the outskirts overlooking vines and verdant trees. It is run by an English family, the Lees (sorry it took me so long to get the pun on the name of your hotel). The room are clean, light and airy and I think there has been some recent refurbishment of the bathrooms. The atmosphere is informal. There is a pool with loungers and tables and a lovely arched terrace where it is a delight to eat out on warm evenings. The family will go the extra mile to accommodate you. Free WiFi available in the TV room and ample free parking at the side of the hotel. There are several very pretty bastide villages within a 20 mile radius. Both hotel and restaurant get many French visitors as well as British, a fact which speaks for the quality on offer.

Mike and Jean together with their helpers were fantastic hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and they were always there to assist. Our room was of an excellent size, comfortable and incredibly clean. The air conditioning worked really well and was quiet.

We thought the breakfasts were good although it was not self-service and the range of items on offer not as great as in the other hotels we stayed at on this trip. The two evening meals we had were a little disappointing with service being rather slow on one occasion.

The hotel is ideally placed for exploring the area. The nearby Roman villa, close to Seviac, is well worth a visit as is the incredible display of Roman jewellery and coins at d'Eauze.

One tip, if when trying to book through the internet the hotel is shown as only having one room available (e.g. a triple-bed room when we tried) it is definitely worth contacting the hotel directly as they may, as in our case, be able to offer alternative accommodation.

We selected this place via the internet. Absolutely fabulous food, quite unexpectedly the chef, Mike Lee, turned out to be (probably) the best chef we have come accross and we looked forward every night with salivating mouths to dinner.

Our room was spacious, double glazed and with a large bathroom and lovely clean dry towels. It was themed, as are the other premium rooms. Our was Chinese and the others were Indian, African and so on.

Jean, the other half of Mike makes sure all your other non food needs are taken of and our stay there was an interesting and delightful sojourn which I can highly reccomend to seekers of tranquility, excellent food and cleanliness. Bon voyage !!

Well run friendly hotel in a lovely location. We stayed in a top floor room which had french windows leading to a large terrace and lovely views across the trees towards Barbotan. The room was quaint and comfortable and the bathroom (wc in separate little room) had lots of towels and complimentary toiletries. There was air-conditioning in the room but we did not use it as the terrace doors when opened kept the room comfortable. So nicer and healthier than being sealed into the usual hotel room.

As we were staying for a week the chef asked if we had any foods we did or did not like. Dinner on the very pretty terrace each night was a surprise and a delight as well as exceptionally good. The chef patron Mike Lees visited every table (not something one sees often enough these days) and asked how the day had gone for each diner.

The staff were friendly and when asked gave well-founded advice and information on where to buy wines and visit. The pool is large, very clean and private and three towels including one with zipped pockets to keep your valuables are put out each day.

The whole area is full of history and has many wonderful old villages and towns to explore — and the roads are quiet, well they were in mid July! Barbotan is a very pretty small thermal spa town and I cannot understand why more (non French) people do not visit. Lots to do within walking distance from the hotel. Great walks and a large lake with a beach area. The hotel and surrounding area has an alpine feel, but without the rain — it was 26deg+ during our stay, there is even a small casino (not the supermarket).

If you like a calm, relaxing holiday with kind friendly staff and top class dining in pretty surroundings you will not find better.

Spent a most enjoyable week here in late May. Our ground floor themed rooms were spacious and comfortably furnished with large ensuite bathrooms . The Liverpudlian owners are very welcoming and enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the local area. Nothing was too much trouble. The food is of a very high standard with a varied menu and the recommended wine was excellent as was the Armagnac! Also enjoyed a dip in the attractive swimming pool. A great base for touring the midi Pyrenees/Gascony. Just over 2 hours to the Spanish border and Bordeaux, Toulouse and Pau all within 2.5 hour drive. Barbotan-les-Thermes was very quiet as it was early in the season but the bustling market on Wednesday morning was very enjoyable.

While looking online for accomodation in the Armagnac region, I stumbled across the hotel website (www.fleursdelees.com) and decided to stay a few days, on a half board basis.

We had one of the theme rooms with a spacious bathroom with double basin, separate walk in shower and heated towel rails. The food, especially the tasting menu, is of the highest standard both in terms of quality and presentation. This is hardly surprising given owner Mike Lees' extensive experience as executive chef in many world class hotels! The wine flight chosen for the tasting menu complimented the food perfectly. On the night when we had the simpler table d'hote dinner, we were recommended some local wine that was extremely pleasant and very reasonable priced.

Mike and his wife Jean are very friendly and have some lovely stories to tell from their days in Dubai. They gave excellent recommendations for armagnac tasting in the region (which was one of the main purpose of our trip!). And if you are there on a Wednesday, the farmers market is not to be missed - lovely fresh produce, foie gras, local wines, armagnac..... just wish i could bring it all home!

We spent three nights there in July 07, on half-board. It's a pleasant hotel, characterised by particularly good food and friendly professional service. Rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. There's a nice swimming pool in a well landscaped garden area. On arrival at the pool your sun-bed is set up with cushions and towels, which is a nice touch.

The hotel is about a ten minute stroll to the town. Barbotan itself is a small quiet place - not much more than a thermal spa, a few small shops and restaurants. Nearby there's a lake, public swimming pool, horse riding, tennis and canoeing. The spa attracts a lot of elderly visitors because of its reputation for relieving rheumatism, arthitis and even stress. We can't vouch for it because thankfully we we are not suffering from any of these conditions (yet)!

The immediate area might a bit limiting for children for a longish stay but the hotel itself is definitely recommended, particularly for the quality of food. It's a good spot for exploring the Armagnac region, old towns and chateaux.
