I wish all English food could be up to this standard. Other food establishments need to visit this place to get some much needed ideas. People, service, atmosphere and food, need to be packed up and shipped to the USA. A refreshingly pleasant attitude to service and food. If it is this good in a quiet backwater of England, I look forward to being in 'The Sticks' more frequently. I also took away as much as I could from the deli section to bring back home to the States. Forget the latest celebrity chefs, Breda Murphy is the name to watch out for!

Visited with a group of friends for a Christmas meal. The welcome was warm and inviting. The staff were smiling and very willing which set us up for a great night. The Christmas menu was varied with dishes for all tastes and the food was excellent consisting of local fresh meats and fish etc. We never felt rushed and were able to chat and pass the time pleasantly while the courses arrived. This small intimate restaurant is an oasis of understated style which is more than well worth a visit and the price although not cheap was well worth paying. First rate!

This restaurant located in a converted detached house tucked away by the railway station is a most unlikely looking location for the great food that is to be found inside. Entrance is through a deli/gift shop which at this time of year is doing a great impersonation of Santa's grotto but don't be put off, this is an experience worth seeking out.

When 3 of us arrived, without reservations, right at the back end of what had clearly been a busy Friday lunch service the place was full and the atmosphere was jumping but the staff were total unfazed by our unexpected arrival. The welcome was a salutatory lesson in customer service for many an establishment that comes with far greater accolades - apologies that there was no table available but did we want to look at the menu and browse the shop whilst they made one ready? You bet we did the smells coming from the kitchen were setting already whetted appetites on high anticipatory alert.

A short wait and we were ensconced at our table with a drink making our choices from an interesting menu, short enough to convince fresh ingredients were the order of the day long enough to offer choice to 3 dinners with disparate tastes. What the menu promised the kitchen delivered with one disappointing exception. The rosti selected by our non meat eater bore a closer resemblance to a tortilla than a rosti but its disappointment was quickly picked up by Breda and she insisted on not charging, a welcome if unnecessary response as 3 starters and 2 main courses had hit the spot and everyone was more than satisfied with the puds on offer.
A very enjoyable experience that we will definitely repeat.

We asked Breda to cater for and staff a family party in our house for 18 people recently. We have eaten at her restaurant in Whalley many times and have never been disappointed.
Breda went through the evening step by step and answered any questions we had. She organised the crockery/ tables/ glasses/flowers etc and then arrived the day before the party to dress the table. On the evening of the party 3 staff arrived and sorted everything out from warming the food, serving drinks and canapés to collecting coats, all very discretely. The food was deliciously tasty and homely, just the feeling I wanted our party to have. Breda's suggestions were perfect and everything complimented each other very well. Our vegetarian guests were thoughtfully catered for.At the end of the evening the kitchen was tidy and the dirty dishes packed and ready for collection. Our guests have all said they had a wonderful time and my husband and I feel Breda, Theresa, Rebecca and Millie all made this a fantastic party. It was reasonably priced for top quality food and service. We will definitely do this again, thank you Breda.
