The hotel is in the centre of town, the building itself is really nice and so are the receptions rooms. The staff are friendly and show you to your room. The room was of good size with a large bathroom. All very clean, neat and tidy. Wifi is free and good signal from the room. Private car park is free as well as the indoor pool and basic gym. There are two restaurants, both of which offer great food at very reasonable prices. I highly recommend this hotel.

It is a nice place surrounded by mountains, small town where everybody know everybody, I love that feeling!!!!
The Hotel is nice, they've been giving up grades to different areas and have built some others like the new villas on the back area of the hotel, garden area, but to be honest, there's been a lack of service, no consistency from the people at the front desk to housekeeping. Some special requests were not met and in some areas have an old smell, like never clean them before.
The service at L”Assiette du Coq à l'ane is good, the food is very local with different choices, good local wines, nothing fancy but can say ok.
Overall is a good place but needs to follow up on small details.

On tour through the Vosges mountains my husband and I stayed for one night. We had not prebooked and the hotel was reasonably full. We were offered a double-room, evening meal and breakfast for €80 per person. This included use of the pool, small sauna and fitness machines. We were delighted. The receptionist explained about the three restaurants and our choices. Everyone was most helpful and friendly. A free carpark was available.
The meal was very pleasant and the atmosphere relaxing. The weather was awful so we stayed in the hotel and played pool billard in the evening. In the morning I visited the indoor pool before a very nice breakfast buffet style. There were many families staying and also using the pool after breakfast but French families are often a pleasure to watch and the children were not at all loud.
The room was quite large enough and bathrobes were provided without having to request them. The bathroom was modern, the toilet had it's own little room, the bed comfortable and the curtains kept out the morning light. The 50' s style wardrobe did not look out of place and was not in the least tatty so why replace it.
This hotel was a very nice surprise and a few of the chain hotels would do well to introduce a little of the humanity we experienced and enjoyed.

For discerning and experienced travellers Gerardmer is not an attractive place, however, the Grand Hotel in the middle of things and not situated near the lake, is imbued with an air of times long past. Hence it is not new and hip, although, it offers a nice spa (and a large parking lot within the sprawling compound). The bathroom was large and well lit and the double doors prevented any noise from entering from the corridors; very quiet. The spartan room furniture was acceptable at the price but the cabinet which ought to have housed the minibar or a fridge was empty. Not even glasses to drink water from were provided, much less was bottled drinking water in evidence. Eventually, we had to carry up some glasses from the restaurant after dinner. The food (half board) was fine, the wine list excellent and so was the service. the breakfast buffet was mayhem: too many people crowding into a very cramped space to load their plates and trays. Worse, there were too few staff assigned to clear the tables: chaos pure and simple.

Room Tip: rooms overlooking the hotel grounds, spa & parking lot are quiet

Absolute fabulous and classy venue with great accomodations and great restaurants, certainly enjoy the setting and scenery (and food ofcourse) in the traditional Coq à l' Ane-restaurant. Situated in the Vosges-area (Gerardmer) in town-centre and within walking distance of shops and all other commerce. A splendid establishment in a splendid region.

"Grand hotel", a nice old-fashioned hotel, with a glimpse to former times where only the rich and famous could afford a holiday.... especially for the bar and restaurants.
The 3 restaurants offer nice French cuisine; they also offer a great wine card (but this is expensive!).
Only negative point in summertime is the lack of airconditioning and refridgerator in the room.

Room Tip: Choose your room: half of them are on the street side (noise if you sleep with open window); other r...
