“Fabulous, villa style hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2010

This a lovely hotel housed in an old villa, but tastefully updated. It is charming and much attention has been paid to the details. The grounds are beautiful with lush, tropical landscaping. The restaurant's patio looks out onto the grounds. Our room had a patio with a double door. The room itself was quite lovely being decorated in yellow and white. It also had a small area with a bunkbed. This was a nice feature even though we had no children along. The room was clean with modern ammenities such as a safe and LCD TV. The bathroom had a double sink, tub, and shower. The toilet was in its own room, a nice feature. We ate dinner in the restaurant one night. It was very good and the service was excellent. The pool was pretty, but we didn't use it because it was cool outside. The only negative would be the location. It is a bit far from Avignon, but it wasn't a big problem since we drove.

Spent 6 days at this truly wonderful hotel. The staff (reception especially) were most accomodating and helpful with excellent room service. Changed room, as requested a garden view, but this was no issue and all done with no problems. Both rooms were emaculate, but if you want the typical French feel and not just a hotel room, then suggest you take a room in the main building.
Food was great and pool area and gardens very relaxing.
Hotel is within walking area of the town with various bars and restaurants. Also, just a 10 minute bus ride from the tourism office to Avignon centre, so hotel is really well placed.
Would definitely return and highly recommend

This hotel is a Best Western, but don't let that fool you ... this hotel is elegant, particularly the grounds complete with pond and amazing courtyard restaurant. The pool also comes in handy on those hot summer days. It is very difficult NOT TO slow down and spend time relaxing here. It is a few miles from Avignon, but very much worth it!

My son and I based ourselves here for three nights in late June, occupying a twin room in the original building and we had a very relaxing and pleasant stay, made all the better by the friendliness of the hotel’s staff.

We arrived at the hotel rather too soon for check-in, but having caught a very early morning flight into Marseille airport and collected our hire car, we just wanted to chill until it was time for dinner, as it was a sweltering 38 degrees Centigrade outside. Our room wasn’t due to be ready until 3pm, but we were welcome to install ourselves in the bar or by the pool, which had a very clean changing room and fresh towels. The housekeeper made our room a priority to service and she came to seek us out by the pool to let us know when it was ready.

The “Classic” bedroom was quite small, with Provencal-style furnishings, tiled floors and comfortable beds, but with air conditioning, a large bathroom with double sink, clean towels and dressing gowns, it was all we needed for a relatively short stay. Someone with large suitcases and no car might want more space, which I believe the “Privilege” rooms offer. Our room was very quiet at night, with shutters on the windows and an “airlock” door onto the corridor.

On the first night, we selected dinner from the 33€ Retour du Marché menu (starter, fish or meat, cheese or dessert), thinking we might eat out later in the week. However, the food was excellent and the service was well executed and friendly. The outdoor dining area in the garden is very pleasant, with no traffic noise, as the hotel is located in a quiet residential area. We ended up eating in every night, also trying out the extended choice from the 51€ four course Menu du Magnan. None of the twenty or so dishes we ordered during our stay was a disappointment and many were outstandingly good.

Drinks and breakfast may seem expensive, but this is the norm in France. We paid almost as much for tea, Coke and orange juice at pavement cafés in Aix, and we didn’t get any of the included snacks that the hotel serves up as standard. La Magnaneraie is not cheap, but I didn’t feel that this hotel is out to make even more money from overpriced extras. There are no mini-bars in the rooms and Internet access is free. But one thing I would have liked to see is a free bottle of mineral water on the bedside tables.

As others have pointed out, bar service is a little erratic outside of meal times, but the reception desk is always manned and staff were prompt to deal with any requests. For me, this is part of the charm of the hotel; you could sit in any of the public areas without feeling waiters were hovering to take orders, or clear away the minute drinks were finished.

Overall, this is an excellent hotel and restaurant, particularly for those travelling by car, with easy access and free parking. If you do drive to the hotel, try to arrive by way of Les Angles (N100/D6580) where you will find the Leclerc supermarket - also handy for prepared snacks and drinks to take on days out - rather than approaching Villeneuve through the congested centre of Avignon.

Would I stay here again? Absolutely!

We and another couple had reservations for 2 rooms for 4 nights. We had checked in and left the hotel to tour Avignon. Upon returning to the hotel we were informed that we would have to go to another hotel on our 4th and final night. It seems that the hotel had an opportunity to book a large group for the 4th night and needed our rooms. After protesting that we wanted to stay in 1 hotel for all 4 nights and after calling Hotels.com which in turn called La Magnaneraie, they reluctantly agreed to send us to another hotel immediately. The other hotel turned out to be nicer and much more convenient to town.

My family stayed in two rooms in the garden wing for three days. I requested a handicap accessible room - and was very pleased with the bathroom, which had an accessible shower with a great shower chair, grab bars everywhere, accessible sinks. One of the best accessible bathrooms I have encountered anywhere in the world on my travels.

I loved the sheets and blanket on the bed - I don't like duvets in summer.

Dinner one evening was wonderful - sitting under the plane tree. Food was delicious - I like seafood and the scallops were "melt in the mouth" tender. Bread was excellent and a never ending supply was offered. Service excellent.

In my opinion, a great breakfast was offered with a variety of choices. Yes, it is expensive by USA standards but for us, well worth the money. Several choices of bread and pastries, five choices of jam/jellies, four choices of honey, fresh fruit, eggs, cold meats, USA style cereals, juices, milk, coffee and tea. Eating breakfast outside under the trees was delightful. Much better than a cafe on a noisy street.

The staff were helpful and very pleasant.

A great stay.

This is a real gem. The property is beautiful with a nice rock building. The garden is cozy and calm and the rooms roomy and comfortable. It feels pretty much like a Relais & Chateaux with less services available (Bell Boys for instance).

We stayed there twice, in a total of 5 nights. The first 2 night we took a basic room and when we came back a few days later, we took a better room with a huge balcony over the garden.

Location: Perfect to explore the region. 5 km from Avignon’s main entrance (to the historic town) and with easy access to main roads. It is a very good location for who is driving (free parking).

Bedroom: Just perfect. Nice décor with rustic walls and floors. Makes you really feel in Provence. The things that could make it even better are better pillows and a mini bar (you will need a lot of water after all that great wine).

Cleanliness: Spotless

Bathroom: Really nice and big with a large bathtub and a separated shower. Bathrobes and slippers.

Internet Connection: Could be better.

Staff: Helpful and sweet. Suggested and made reservations for a delicious restaurant for dinner.

We would definitely return!
