We are very disappointed with the hotel this time. First of all, the booking system doesn't work properly. We booked a suit, but have not got any confirmation on e-mail, so next day my husband called straight the hotel, not the booking line, and by the hotel they didn't have our reservation. So we booked our suit again, but this time it was already booked, so we have got a deluxe bad room. In reality it was a dark and small room. another disappointment -- a work of chambermaid. So, just one bottle 0,5l of Vittel for two person for two nights. Is that 5 stars hotel???? The rubbish and the glasses after room-service were not removed from the room at all. The drinks in minibar were never filled. One of the lights in bathroom was not working. The bed sheets were smelling humidity!!!!!!
As usual The restaurant was good, but it's shame that it's closed on Sunday evening.

My wife and I stayed here while on our honeymoon. Our room (really a suite) was spacious and comfortable, beautifully furnished, and well-kept. The gardens and ivy-covered buildings are both beautiful and tranquil. Rates are reasonable, and the location provides easy access to Villeneuve and Avignon. The staff was extremely welcoming and helpful, and made our stay a pleasure.

Hard to find, hardly worth the effort to try.
Very little service.
Rooms are large but not attractive. Ours was dark in midday and the lighting was almost useless.
Our welcome amenity was a small 8 oz plastic bottle of water. (For two, in a suite!)
The only closet, ( a walk in?!) was hardly wide enough for me,(97pounds) to walk in sideways and hang my clothes. No drawers, no shelves in either of the two rooms in the suite, one luggage rack.

Nowhere to put our few toiletries in bathrooms. Tiny paper wrapped soap.

Only+, the food and service at the restaurant was excellent.

Relais and Chateau, I think not.

Room Tip: Have dinner there, stay somewhere else!

Stayed at Le Prieure for three nights in two different rooms as we ended up extending a night because we loved it so much. Villaneuve is literally over the bridge from Avignon, a 5-minute drive, and a great option if you want to experience a quiet and charming French village, a little calmer than Avignon. Villaneuve is located right on the Rhone and the town has its own fortress and cobblestone streets, main drag and main square. The location is truly idyllic.

We spent two nights in room 16, which overlooks the patio. This feels like an old room, but with high ceilings and wood panelling and great casement windows that open onto views of the patio and the beautiful trees. The bathroom was roomy with a great big raised tub built into the paneling,. Alas, no shower, but no need. Bed extremely comfortable with beautiful throw and lots of great art and details. We slept with the windows open and the sound of the leaves rustling in the breeze was hypnotic. Being there in late Sept/early Oct could not have been a better time - much less people and warm, beautiful weather.

The last night, we were in La Chambre Noue - room 65 I believe - which was a sharp contrast to our first room. The top room in the main building, room 65 was large and bright white and gorgeous. Best detail was the bathroom - designed into this attic space, to access you walked down three stairs from the bedroom, which was really charming, and then boom! you are greeted with this really sensational, clean and chic bathroom. Separate shower - and what a shower! This is a showcase room - clean and contemporary whereas Room 16 was more historic and traditional in feel - maybe even more charming.

We ate breakfast in the restaurant everyday. We really enjoyed it - a great selection of cheeses and meats, muffins, breads (oh the breads), cereal, yogurt, great coffee and fresh juices. They also served eggs and other dishes, which we never tried as we were slightly obsessed with the cheese. I believe the breakfast was 25 euro, so maybe a little pricey, but we enjoyed it very much.

The best part about the hotel is the grounds, which all feed into a large patio with lots of tables and chairs and areas to sit and enjoy the day or evening. There is a spectacular country garden full of flowers and trellises and ornamental, decorative features. There's also a lovely pool - big and plenty of loungers. We enjoyed a late afternoon glass of wine with our toes in the pool.

We had rented a car at the airport in Marseille and driving to Villaneuve was easy. Villaneuve, though, is full of narrow and windy streets, and thankfully, there is a private parking lot with immediate access to the property. Le Prieure is about 2 mins walk to Villaneuve "town" where there is a wonderful square with great restaurants to sit, have a bite and people watch.

Excellent front desk staff, as well. Helped us with directions, questions about the area and good restaurants. Made our visit very warm and comfortable. Do go for a walk or run along the Rhone, easily accessible from the hotel. The scenery is magical and you feel you've stepped back in time. We discovered a fun restaurant right on the river called La Guinguette - really delightful, all lit up at night for outdoor, riverside dining. Also, a fantastic market takes place every Thursday morning.

Room Tip: The rooms beginning in 6 - all in the main building - were suggested as being the best rooms. We st...

This is truly an outsatnding spot - the hotel, grounds and staff were terrific. It is a beautiful location. The village is the ultimate of southern France experience, local town square, market, and some excellent restaurants, patisseres, fruit market, etc. We were very pleased with every aspect of the stay. Did not dine at the hotel restaurant, a little out of our range. As others have noted, the public transportation to Avignon is very good - about a four minute ride although it wraps up around 8:30 PM. Free parking and free wireless internet. We were probably very fortunate with our room assignment - it was a luxurious suite!

This is a great spot for touring around most of Provence without being caught in the tourist trap. The rooms are modern for such an old property but the shower was clogged upon arrival and the shower head itself never stayed in one place long enough to take a shower without it soaking the floor. The really aren't any bellman to help with bags from parking lot and the staff is not very fluent in English or directions. One night they said they would make reservations for us in town and the restaurant turned out to be closed. However, the restaurant on site is a real treat and worth the visit from beginning to end. Breakfast served on our balcony was also a great value although the first morning we only had one fork for the two of us and the second morning there was no pepper in the mill. The rooms (we had a jr. suite) are spacious and the common area is beautifully relaxing which is great after a long day of touring. The problem with this property is that it claims to be 5 star but it is lacking in the attention to detail that comes with the honor.

Room Tip: Be sure to get something with a balcony.

This hotel is a little off the beaten path, about a $15 cab ride into town. But still several good restaurants within walking distance in this nice little suburb of Avignon. It is in a very peaceful setting, quiet, excellent customer service with very friendly and knowledgable staff, and rooms are a welcome change compared to Paris, the difference being lots of extra space like American hotels. The plus is it is relaxing and romantic, only negative is you are a $15 cab ride away from Avignon if u want to be in town, depending on what you want (and we could smell sewer gas frequently in our room 12, but i think this was the only room with this problem). The hotel restaurant is probably the most expensive one in the suburban area there, but very good if you want to splurge.
