“A charming small hotel in a prime position”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

We loved this small hotel and thought we were lucky to find it in the popular village of St Enimie in the Tarn Gorge. The hotel is centrally located near the canoes and restaurants and the rooms are clean, comfortable and freshly decorated and the price is reasonable. Breakfast was beautifully served and generous, with extra cups of coffee offered, which we have found is rare. The owner was very helpful. He allowed us into the room early and did not flinch when my husband accidentally broke a lamp! They were also helpful about WIFI connection. We would like to return ! Thank you.

Room Tip: We were on the third floor-not so good with luggage but these rooms were very pleasant.

Arriving on the Sunday of a long weekend (we didn't know about the long weekend), we went door knocking for a room for a couple of nights. The door to Bar Hotel Burlatis was open and we were offered a room with queen sized bed and ensuite for under 50Euro. It was small, clean, cosy and views over St Enimie. We enjoyed a very relaxed couple of nights with a good bed and french breakfast downstairs. Wifi was also free in the bar/bfast room. We loved our time in the Gorges du Tarn and Hotel Burlatis was a perfect base and excellent value.

We had a family room with kitchenette that slept 4 of us comfortably (could have been 5 if you used the couch/bed also), in a 17th century building across from the main hotel building, off a tiny alleyway full of shops. The suite was well laid out and had been remodeled to modern standards much more recently than the 17th century, but kept its romantically 17th century feel, with thick stone walls. But best of all was the terrace that overlooked the main street and the River Tarn. We had dinner and breakfast on the terrace every day, couldn't bring ourselves to go out because it was so beautiful to look at the view and watch the evening bustle. The windows were double-glazed so it was not noisy even when the festivities continued past our bedtime. One warning: the kitchenette has a microwave but no stove or oven. Also the beds weren't the most comfortable. All of which was more than made up for by the setting and ambience.

I would advice anyone not to book this hotel as they do not bother to honour a confirmed booking or even be there. The latter happened to us this June 2011 - beware being asked to reconfirm your booking in the day before arrival as you will probably get a garbled answer phone message that say in effect 'gone away - back later'. Although they have all your contact details they don't bother to call you and it appears to be a repeating problem. My advice is don't take a chance you'll be on the street. Pity but true

At first you may think this may a rundown faded glory hotel and that it is the reason it is cheap (40-50 eur). However, beyond the outdated hallways are rooms that are clean, largely renovated, and serve their purpose well. This hotel is made to sleep and have breakfast. No other amenities present. We did not try dinner. Room windows open to the street. Breakfast is basic but all you need before you go kayaking for a day. Notably, many people who slept elsewhere flocked to this hotel for breakfast. It is not open yearround, closed for the winter where they renovate. Owners are charming and helpful. Would recommend for travelers who a more interested in the region and the outdoors and just needing a place to sleep. Of course the real diehards will go the Gites at Hautrives that can only be reached by boat or on foot.
