“And a river runs through”
Reviewed August 19, 2012 via mobile

I always like to stay near water and this eclectic bed and breakfast ticks this particular box very nicely. The other thing I like is originality and once again it doesn't get much better than this. Helpful hosts Ben and Mark are doing a fabulous job of renovating this classic old building and I can't wait to see the totally finished job sometime down the track. At the moment there are 5 bedrooms that are very clean and comfortable. We had the back room with a small terrace, very quiet.
The access in and out of Beziers from here is excellent.
I recommend this place to anyone who doesn't go in for boring 4 walled hotel rooms.
The croissants were fresh every morning!

Thank you for your lovely review and it was a pleasure to have you both here especially one evening enjoying YOUR gin and nibbles. Happy that you enjoyed our fresh croissants and I hope your continuing holiday in this region proves fruitful and fabulous. Hope to see you both very soon. Best Wishes Mark & Ben.

I have just returned from my 3rd visit to Maison D'Lorb. Once again I had a wonderful time. Mark and Ben are wonderful hosts and gave me a warm welcome. The accommodation is typical French with fabulous views in a beautiful area. Breakfast was plentiful, fresh and very enjoyable. Thanks once again for a fab time and the glasses of wine you provided me with. I will be back again very soon. Trish xx

I spent a couple of days at the wonderful Maison de L'Orb recently and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys staying in places that are a little off the beaten path and have a bit more character and flair than the standard holiday accomodation.

The location is great, overlooking the river in Beziers, and it's only a short (albeit briefly uphill) walk to the centre of the town. The house itself is just fantastic and although it's been refurbished it still retains a huge amount of the original charm and style - with lots of nice little touches around the place that let you know that the owners take the idea of good customer service very seriously!

Speaking of which, the guys that run the place are totally charming and very helpful - I have been travelling on my own for a while and it was so nice to be able to sit and have a conversation with them when I arrived and then again over the (excellent) breakfast each morning ..... and they even surprised me with a bottle of wine and a card as it was my birthday during my stay there.

If you like cookie-cutter minimalist style places with an anonymous approach then Maison de L'Orb probably won't be for you - but for a quirky and comfortable stay in a welcoming environment it's perfect.

Room Tip: I believe there are only 5 rooms but if the standard of mine was anything to go by, they'll all...

Thank you so much for your lovely review and we are happy that you enjoyed your stay with us. Sometimes people get confused with a hotel and bed and breakfast and we do try and communicate and chat to our gusts while they are here to make them feel at home. Wishing you well and your onward journey and hopefully touch base soon.
Best Wishes Mark & Ben.

great and quirky b&b and lovely hosts, but could do with a cleaner to sparkle it up, a very informal and relaxing setting, the photos don't show the details, the food and general housekeeping could be more professional, not as clean as a rated hotel, and a bit more attention to standards (coffee, croissants, cleanliness) would make this a truly great place to stay

Dear Ruth

Thank you for your feedback and review and happy you found us quirky (thankfully we are NOT a hotel)and will take on board the cleanliness you mentioned.

Not sure what you mean by the food as you requested gluten free breakfast for your friend two days before arrival - which we supplied in full including hard to find rice milk - and everyday you said the coffee and breakfast was great. I will though have a word with our local baker who bakes the croissants every morning.

Best Wishes Mark & Ben

This place is advertised as relaxing, however, we found it anything but. The hotel is next to a busy road and the walk into the city is fifteen minutes up a very steep hill. The showers did not work properly and were either freezing cold or boiling hot. The lovely garden seen on the website was full of concrete for building works not yet started and so there was nowhere to sit comfortably outside. The pillows were not comfortable and the sheets thin. The fresh milk offered in the rooms was off. We were very disappointed with the whole experience of staying at the Maison De L'Orb.

This is clearly a malicious and totally unfounded report. The guests in question stayed over two months ago and signed our guests book "welcoming hosts, a lovely place to stay" - a scan as proof of this can be shown and will be sent to our legal team. Sadly, we received a badly written letter demanding monies with menace and our eight page response letter was ignored. I would ask people to read our other reviews on this site and others and refer to our excellent entries in several major guides.

We had a few days in Maison de L'Orb , delightful food and hospitality. Mark's cooking was fab, his home made jam was brilliant and the location was handy for the town.
Their stock of wines and the cherry beer was delightful. We plan on returning again soon.

We have just returned from a delightful seven day visit to Maison De L'Orb and recommend it highly for anyone who is planning to visit Beziers. Mark & Ben extended a warm and friendly welcome, they couldn't have been more helpful in passing on their local knowledge of Bezeirs and the surrounding area. The accomodation was excellent, with boundless hospitality and food to match, nothing was too much trouble for our hosts. May we wish you both well for the future and much success with your ongoing projects... Kevin & Ruth.
