The location is good (the must-see beautiful seaside village of Collioure is a 30min drive away) , but you need a car to get around to see local sights. The local market is within walking distance.
The only thing that really ruined it for us was that when we arrived, the Manager made some casual reference to some items having being stolen from one of the cottages (he pointed out that they had installed a video camera to try and catch the culprit). We didn’t take it seriously enough, and since we were staying there with kids, we were reluctant to keep doors locked all the time when we were still in the farmhouse (less than 6 meters away) and enjoying the pool.
The cottage is very vulnerable to theft, the front door is just steps away from the road. A local resident is aware of this and has repeatedly robbed guests – hence the video camera. We were robbed of Euro400 and two iPads. One feels violated and insecure after an experience like that. It’s no longer a peaceful and wonderful holiday home when that happens.
The area is wonderful, many great villages and wonderful food.
