“Not beautiful but cheap”
Reviewed May 1, 2013

The hotel is not beautiful, everything is very old and worn out. Breakfast is o.k., but don't expect too much. The rooms are a bit dirty. The area around the hotel offers a parking garage and a supermarket, but is kind of scary. Lot's of thieves (my wallet was stolen, but for gods sake entirely returned). Metro station to Paris downtown is only 30 seconds from the hotel entrance away. The surrounding streets are very noise until 3 a.m.. The staff either refused or is not able to speak english! Only french, but otherwise they were o.k. and tried to help.

This hotel is really not very good. No parking (although it does say on the website), the WIFI didn't work, there was only one grey (used to be white) towel (what if there were two of us?!?!), mould on the lampshades, broken lights, dingy small bathroom, and the carpet was quite grubby really. I expect much more from what is a big hotel chain. I have stayed in much nicer and cheaper independent hotels, I certainly won't be staying here again.

I have just returned from a weekend stay in paris and feel compelled to write a fair and balanced review of this hotel as it appears they are at both extremes so here goes I booked this break being the first without checking fellow travellers comments first and as you can imagine was panicked by the reviews however given that when I was looking for other alternatives to change to the reviews for hotels were as bad for those at twice the price so me and my partner decided that we would risk it. Firstly the hotel well it is pretty rough to be fair there are some aromas and the decor once out of the lobby is like a 1970s council block the room needed alot of tlc but the bathroom was clean and the bed very comfortable and spotlessly clean there is no safety boxes so not able to leavevalubles in the room secondly the staff the English is very limited some are friendly however one lady very rude but such is life the food we had booked bed and breakfast I have to say I was pleasantly surprised it is just continental but plentiful however they operate a tray policy maybe this is a French thing ?? A bit like a school canteen finally the area well I have to agree with the majority of the comments on here it does feel unsafe especially when returning late in the evening it is a 95% black community and although I am comfortable with all nationalities there is a definate gang culture feel to st denis which is reinforced by the security guard on the hotel
St denis is on the outer suburbs of Paris zone 3 so you will need a visite pass for the metro but a journey in takes approx 20 min and the metro is excellent value at around 30 euro for 3 days
If you have booked this hotel already and reading this it is bearable as long as you use it as a base and are not looking for luxury if not avoid this location and hotel

Overall paris is a fabulous city and will definatley return however as for this hotel and st denis it will not be on my itinerary

The title sums up my experience.
The rooms are not what I saw on Booking.com! Even the pictures here make the rooms look good.
I stayed there for 4 nights and NOT ONCE have our sheets/beddings been changed! (we marked them on the first day). Towels were dirty and had spots on them, but no matter as they were not being changed by the "cleaners" either;) after 2 days of having the same towels i asked the receptionist for fresh towels.. Those had stains on them as well... so we bought kitchen rolls from the supermarket across the street. Regarding the sheets...the receptionist couldn't offer us any sheets..
The area is very dodgy. On our first night we asked the receptionist for a restaurant/fast food nearby. She recommended we order in, as it was not safe to go out, saying "you don't want to go out at this time"... What would you think once you hear something like that?!

Overall - the area is not safe, the rooms are not clean and they are not even bothered about cleaning them.
My recommendation is GO for another hotel, you can find something much better for this money.

P.S. They don't have a hair dryer in the room

Room Tip: Avoid this hotel completely!

We are totally astonished to read recent reviews which are the complete opposite to our four day experience this week. We can only speculate that the well respected Campanile chain, sensitive to their image have instituted drastic changes.

First security. There was an imposing security man on duty outside during the day and at reception at night. As a further measure you needed to use your plastic room key in the lift to get it to function - the first time we have met this extra measure.

Our third floor room was in a well decorated corridor. A double room, large by Parisian standards with room to move around, featuring a kettle with supplies of tea and coffee and a multi channel flat screen TV with HD. The decoration was immaculate and spotlessly clean. The en suite bathroom contained a full sized bath with shower. Towels changed daily. The window was double glazed completely eliminating street noise. No objectionable odours perceived.

The reception ladies were smiling and asked how we were enjoying our stay when we passed.
The restaurant appeared well patronised at lunchtime. The buffet breakfast was of a good standard and operative for three hours daily.

St Denis is vibrantly multi-cultural which makes some people uneasy to go there. We were totally unaware of attracting attention hostile or otherwise, when arriving by taxi, returning to the hotel late at night, or when leaving trundling our luggage through the market and mall a good quarter mile to the tram stop.

We are experienced hotel travellers and rate this experience well above average in terms of perfectly acceptable comfort level and value for money.

Room Tip: Our experience of th 3rd floor - quiet with double glazing and good sized double room

I had an awful experience with this hotel. Booked through hotels.com but the receptionist refused the accept the booking and payment confirmation from hotels.com. She said that the hotel has no links to hotels.com. She asked me to pay the room rent again. I was therefore doubly charged.
There was no one in the hotel who could speak English. Poor room service. Booked a triple room but smaller than a double room. No Space to walk around the bed. No Kettle and only the stand are available. This seems to be case in other rooms. There was only one towel for three people. The only positive fact is that the hotel is near a metro station but is around 35-40 minutes from central Paris.
Will not recommend at all. Will never stay even if offered free
