A long weekend in Paris for 2 at a reasonable rate. We booked a 'job lot' which included return Eurostar to London and 3 nights B&B at the Syjac. Definitely a no frills hotel although the staff were friendly and helpful. Our rather odd two-tier bedroom would have been insufferably hot in the summer and, due to the extremely noisy outlook, impossible to open the window and get a good night's sleep. Facilities were basic; the bed not particularly comfortable and no food or snacks available except a reasonable breakfast with limited choice although plentiful. Its location is just too far for a short Paris break - and although taxis are much cheaper than London, the metro is a good 15 minutes walk away and the bus ride 45 minutes meandering through suburban Paris. La Defense is deserted at weekends so rather soulless, but we nevertheless found a couple of good bistrots. Plus sides are its proximity to Neuilly and La Jatte - all under-rated in tourist terms and La Grande Arche in La Defense itself - although this is now rather tired, it's still an impressive building and worth going to the top (in the lift!) for the view straight down Champs Elysees and beyond. In short - unrepeatable and only if you can't find value more centrally.
