Classics Hotel Porte de Versailles
Reviewed February 12, 2013

The hotel is easy to reach and travel from using public transport as it is no more than 10 mins walk to the Metro and the no 2 tram terminus.
The staff at reception were very helpful and supportive when I needed help. I was also given good advice about travelling to Versailles on public transport and the trip was easy.
Thank you all .

We had just a short holiday in Paris (4 days-3nights). but it was amazing! The hotel was in a safe area, close to the metro station Corentin Celton (zone 3). Due to this it was easy to get in the city center. The room was very clean, and the staff was also really helpful. We had only breakfast in our booking, but it was more than enough, with its deliciouse croissantes and baguettes :) so we had only a dinner in the evening. We tried the french specialities the snails (escargot), if you are hesitating dont:) just try it, it tastes like any other meat:)
Despite of we were only just for few days there, we could visit almost all the famouse monuments, streets, museums and tourist activities.

We stayed here for two nights in mid-January. This hotel was chosen as a 'top secret' deal on lastminute.

It's a good place to stay if you're looking for a place to crash and are not looking for frills. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The room was clean and refreshed each day, and it was in a quiet area. Don't be put off by the location on a map, it's in a great area and very well connected by the Metro.

Overall a good experience.

Stayed at the Classics Hotel for New Year's celebrations when others reviewed were fully booked or extortionate. It is a good standard hotel within easy reach of all the main attractions of the city centre and is in a decent area itself. Other than location, the main requirements I have of any hotel are a comfortable clean bed and a good clean shower and Classics satisfied these - especially as we did not spend much time there.
The reception staff were friendly and helpful - the only minor gripe was the cleaning lady speaking and laughing very loudly on her mobile as we sought to recover from the nights before.

Me and my girlfriend stayed here for four nights in mid December. This hotel was chosen as a 'top secret' deal on lastminute. I'll admit that I wasn't too impressed when I saw where the hotel was, but the first thing I'll say about this hotel, is that it's in a nice quiet place, only a 3 minute walk from the Metro, which is 10 mins from anywhere in the center of Paris.

If you want the long version, read on, otherwise, skip towards the bottom for a summary of good and bad points...

The deal we got for this location was excellent, and I would recommend this hotel to others, but would also point out that it is very basic.

LOCATION

The hotel was a 3-5 minute walk from Porte de Versailles station which is on the M12 Metro line which takes you everywhere, and also a tram line (T3) which takes you to Pont du Garigliano on the river (and also happens to be the overground station which takes you Versailles). The area near the station can be quite busy at weekends due to the exhibition centre, but the walk to the hotel is generally nice and quiet, and passes several restaurants and a couple of mini markets.

There are a couple of bakeries nearby which are nice a relatively cheap if you want to get breakfast and sandwiches for the day. There is also a small convenience store next door to the hotel.

AT THE HOTEL

Upon arrival to the hotel, we had a friendly greeting from the receptionist (who spoke excellent English). The check in process required only a name, and my passport for photocopying - it was very quick and simple.

We went to room 302, (on 3rd floor right next to elevator - the corridors are very small...). When we walked into the room, my girlfriend and I were both taken aback by the stench of smoke - we are both non-smokers. I asked the receptionist to change to a non-smoking room, and she did so very quickly and without hesitation. We were moved to room 202 (on 2nd floor which is non-smoking floor, again right next to elevator). Unless you want a smoking room, make sure you ask for a non-smoking room before hand.

Something worth noting is the lift is awful - not the lift itself, but the waiting for it. There are no stairs from the ground floor up, and there is only one small lift which is used by cleaners and service staff more than customers. If you want to travel in the lift, prepare to wait a few minutes before it arrives.

The hotel offers breakfast for €10 if you need it, but we didn't try it.

THE ROOM

I get the feeling we had such a good rate on our rooms because the room is next to the lift, and also has a very loud boiler behind one wall. We didn't sleep too well because of the noise from the lift (I know the hotel can't stop people from talking by the lift), the boiler, and the air conditioner which had a mind of its own.

Still, the rooms were small but practical, had a comfortable bed, wardrobe, desk, tv on the wall, electronic safe in the wardrobe) and the previously mentioned air conditioner. The bathroom was clean, with a shower in the bath, shower gel dispenser in the bath, tissue dispenser on the wall (kept falling off), and disposable hygiene bags on the wall (also kept falling off).

The cleaners always did a good job cleaning the room thoroughly.

Overall, the hotel was certainly value for money and in a nice location, but didn't give us a very good night's sleep because of the noise.

Summary of good points:

- cheap
- nice location
- helpful staff
- clean and practical room and bathrooms
- local shops

Summary of bad points:

- smokey rooms
- lift which we had to wait 5 minutes for regularly
- noise at night from the lift, boiler and air conditioner
- wear and tear of furniture (wardrobe door falling off, tissue and bag holders in bathroom not fixed)
- light fitting by door sticks out a lot (I'm 6' tall and it was nose height). I had to duck every time I went in and out of the bathroom.

Room Tip: ask for floor 2 for non-smoking rooms

Really disappointing- very noisy - poor double glazing and noisy corridor. As i was checking out the person in front was complaining about noise, loose electrical fittings, being next to the elevator and was told it was his fault for choosing a standard room. Room felt tired - old sheets, old brown blanket. TV stuck on top of a 6 ft wardrobe. Breakfast area very crowded Surprised it got a 3 star classification

I would avoid - pay a bit more and stay at the 4 star Oceania nearby.

Room Tip: check the room is not near the lift
