Hotellerie du Bas-Breau
Ranked #1 of 3 Hotels in Barbizon
Reviewed June 27, 2014 via mobile

Barbizon is a great little town with picturesque views and beautiful architecture.
My family and I arrived to Barbizon around 10 pm, we did not know that everything would close at this time. And as we were all tired and had nothing to eat all day. We walked along the strip of closed shops and came to Hotelier ie du Bas-Breau. We were very grateful to the chef and the hosts because they were still willing to serve us dinner even though it was past closing time.

The food was delicious and very fresh. We had the salmon with a lemon sauce, the grilled prawns, and another type of fish (I don't remember the name.), all presented beautifully and all served with fragrant rice.

Even though we did not stay here, we will definitely come again!

I stayed here for one night on business.

The resturant and bar were really good and they were able to put on a great event for us. The room however was not worth the price tag.

It was very large and the bed was comfy, but the decor was tired. The bathroom in particular was not great. The bath looked dirty so I didn't use it.

I slept well and breakfast was ok.

we were attracted by the reputation of this hotel, as a quiet and refined place not far away from Paris. We were surprised to notice that the hotel needs urgent refurbishing. the swimming pool is a large bath, tables, chairs are really worn out. Works were underway in some parts of the hotel. Room was OK but not worthy of a real 4 star (excepting the nice bathroom). Only the service was up to expectations. In short : Too expensive, needs renovation

Spend 1 night at this hotel. Very overprized (€10 for a 25cl Heineken beer) and €278 for 1 night (even without WIFI as this would be charged separately). First impression was very pushy to have lunch. Showing you first the extensive menu (very expensive) before the menu of the day. Food is good and breakfast is really nice and fresh but not the quality you pay for. Staid in other SLH hotel which were €100 cheaper and service was 100% better. Nice situated at the end of the town, but town was really dead. Very disappointing and we were vene in a very positive mode.

The room was quite nice but the bedding was SO heavy and very uncomfortable. Bed a large double. Bathroom good all mod cons and clean with power spa shower and spa bath. Old French furniture. The Nespresso machine didn't work and the young girl tried hard to fix it but in the end exchanged it - took 3/4 hour to sort and then they tried to charge 6 Euros for a jug of hot milk!!! Breakfast not included in the inflated room price. Outside looked nice but it was cold when we visited ( not their fault!). Only one white wine to choose from at the bar !!!! One???

Took an age to uncork and arrive. Receptionist friendly but some other older male staff very pretentious! Fire almost out - not very welcoming considering the price. secure parking. They try but whilst charging an inflated price for a small village it lacked any wow factor at all and whilst they are not responsible for not many guests they should turn all the works on for the ones they have in my opinion.

- excellent location in the heart of this nice village and nice the famous forest.
- room nicely decorated but not very large
- excellent restaurant but irregular service : very professional guy for helping you to choose the perfect wine and food is excellent. but the waiters should be more professionnal sometimes and should be more clean and without any bad smell.
- waiters at breakfast speak spanish instead of french in front of guests which is considerated a bit poor and unpolite in France.

Stayed 29th/ 30th May 2011. Absolutely awful - room 43 old fashioned furniture and furnishings.Uncomfortable bed.Cigarette burns on side of jacuzzi in very 1970's bathroom.Exit and entry to courtyard bedroom up steep stairs with old carpet.
swimming pool the size of a peanut, half a dozen strokes and your done!!
staff surly and unresponsive particularly at breakfast which was a real haphazard affair with milk being forgotton with tea and coffee and jams not being put out.
Never again.

Room Tip: Avoid at all costs!!
