Hotel du Pot d'Etain

A lovely hotel, but bed and breakfast really. We had a lovely clean room, with a view to the square below. This is not a tourist area, and the only person that spoke good english was the receptionist . We only stayed a couple of nights, as we were at a family wedding . Yet again, a hotel with a lovely breakfast selection, even though it was in a very small room. There is a lift, so if like me stairs are no longer an option you will be fine. In the square outside there are various restaurants, so plenty of choice.

This is our fourth visit and it did not disappoint. Excellent central location with cheap parking right in front of the hotel. Small but perfectly adequate rooms and clean modern bathrooms. Comfortable beds. Friendly staff. Be aware that if you stay on a Monday night there are very few restaurants open. We went to the Chaudron Savoyard just around the corner and would highly recommend it If you like cheese based dishes.

I feel a little mean for not rating this hotel higher. There's really nothing wrong with it. It has a nice, old-fashioned exterior which I like. It's in a pleasant square in the centre of the old town. It has a lift which is great (& several hotels that I've rated higher don't even have lifts). It is immaculately clean. & the staff are pleasant.

I had tried, I think, 3 or 4 other hotels in Chalons on-line but they were all full, so I took this one. I think the problem is that although our room was clean & the beds comfortable, it was very small. & it was cheaply modernised & unattractive. That's a rotten reason… but I would try another hotel if I stayed in Chalons again.

Room cost 78 Euro & breakfast another 9.50 Euro each

This is a small hotel with friendly English speaking staff on the main square. Our room was fine although neither it nor the bathroom were large. We were only staying for one night so it was not a problem. A longer stay could have been a different issue. There was a music festival the evening we stayed but despite the bar outside the hotel being one of the venues we were not disturbed. Breakfast was traditional French and mainly served to you at your table.

Travelling through the north of France, we tried 10 hotels who were rather smugly "complet". Le pot d'etain had a lovely clean large room, with fabulous white cotton bedding, and a huge bathroom. At 9 o clock at night, it felt like heaven. Plus a reccomendation for an excellent restaurant just across the square. Lovely find.

Room Tip: Ask for twin beds, you will probably get two queens.

We stayed at this hotel when driving from Calais to Strasbourg. It's roughly half way.

The staff were very friendly, the bed comfortable, and the facilities more than adequate (unless you wanted a stand-up shower which wasn't available in our room, which had a good-sized bathroom but no shower curtain). Wifi was fast and didn't drop out! If we were staying longer we'd have wanted more electricity sockets - there were very few; when we commented on this we were told it'll be fully refurbished shortly with more sockets.

We didn't have to check out until noon, which gave us time to walk around and explore this nice small town - and to buy some champagne at a very reasonable price.

We'd happily stay here again next time we're coming to Strasbourg.

This is a typical old fashioned French hotel. Ideally placed in the centre of town overlooking a nice square with plenty of bars and restaurants within a short distance. The rooms are small and the double beds are queen sized but it is comfortable and there are extra pillows. The bathroom is a decent size and has a bath and a hair dryer with adequate toiletries. The rooms and reception areas are very clean. The staff on reception are pleasant and helpful. Breakfast as in many French hotels is basic and overpriced. The bar connected by a door to the hotel is best avoided as it is not cheap or clean and the staff aren't very friendly. Rooms overlooking the square are best and this is not a late night party town so no problems with being kept awake. Very good value.
