“A great 3 star”
Reviewed September 20, 2012 via mobile

We arrived at the hotel and despite no car park, due to its central location, there was street parking (both short term metered and long term free) to be found along the quayside.

We received a very friendly welcome and entered the tiny lift to our third floor room. Really modern tiled bathroom with walk in shower and fluffy towels, plasma TV, air-conditioning and hygienic wooden floors. The room was well presented but basic.

Free WiFi worked fabulous.

We had a river view room (31), as opposed to overlooking the enclosed rear courtyard. Traffic noise is quite loud from the main road below, despite the secondary glazing fitted to the traditional French windows, but the view across the river was worth it; otherwise sacrifice the view for a courtyard room.

No safe, coffee making facilities, fridge or anything else for that matter, just a lovely fresh clean room; as expected for a €77 hotel.

For the price paid, I would certainly return. We skipped the 7 Euro continental breakfast, despite the lovely presentation of the b'fast room.

The hotel faces the river and is on a main road but we got a good nights sleep and heard no traffic. Parking is available on the road outside the hotel at minimal prices. We got a friendly welcome from the owners and paid €65 for the night. Our room was 30 reached by the elevator and looked out to the alleyway at the back but no problem. The room was freshly decorated and very clean, the bathroom was neatly tiled and good quality Boch and Grohe fittings. We didnt eat breakfast but it was a popular choice in the dining room for most people. The flatscreen TV in our room had german, english and italian news channels as well as french. Free wifi connection at a good speed was available and we used it!
Lots of interesting things in a few minutes walk - churches, the Maison du Bois a must see and plenty of bars , brasseries and cafes. Many of the restaurants lining the river were turkish style (I think) offering meat from the grill and kebab type food at very reasonable prices. Follow the river going left on leaving the hotel for about 4 miles to arrive at the out of town shopping. Our stay was sep 13th 2012. 2 pillows each provided.

Totally agree with Scott from Sussex below. All perfect, clean and stylish, simple breakfast, great location, all very clean, fantastic hosts. Perfect stop over on Macon and we parked right outside. We ate at a lovely restaurant over the river at saint Laurent and the food was excellent. Did not do any shopping in the little lanes behind hotel but the shops looked really good, next time I think

Room Tip: We were in room 32 was v quiet meant to ask for a river view !

My wife and I stayed here en route to Provence. Walking along past the front of the hotel your initial impression might be to wonder whether the reviews were of a different hotel but once inside you realise that the owners have put a huge amount of care into their hotel. The hotel is on the bank of the Saone river. There is some on-street parking and a public car park behind the hotel. A very warm welcome as we arrived and our initial reaction to the room was 'Wow"!. It was a small room but decorated with such elegance and clean enough to rival an operating theatre. A room with a view over the river is worth asking for when booking. Although that is on the road side of the hotel double windows blocked out almost all of the traffic noise.

The bed was very comfortable, the shower room worked well and the wifi was free. There must be a dozen restaurants within 10 minutes of the hotel and behind the hotel is a good shopping area to pick up provisions and souvenirs before starting out in the morning. Breakfast was served with a smile. It is an easy and direct drive from the Autoroute to and from the hotel.

It's worth planning to spend a few days in the Macon area just to experience this hotel. As an earlier review remarks, this is a model for what a 2 star hotel should be like, and many 3 star hotels would struggle to meet the standards set by the Hotel du Nord. Quite superb!

Room Tip: Go for a river view - it's worth a small amount of traffic noise.

We stayed here en route to the Alps and it proved an excellent choice. The location is great. right on the river bank and easy walking to a variety of restaurants. Our room was spacious, modern, well decorated, spotless.... the bathroom and loo were seperate and both ensuite - a great arrangement. big shower. The owners were really nice and very helpful. There is no private parking but you can park on the road right outside and it seemed safe enough. I would definitely stay here again. great value for money

I really don't know why some people have moaned about this place. It's spotlessly clean, the rooms and beds are comfortable, the welcome is warm and the location - right on the river Saone with a network of pedestrianised streets just behind - is perfect. Good shops and restaurants within five minutes' walk, and the breakfast when we stayed was great - the freshest bread, brioches, fruit, yoghurt and unlimited high quality coffee. The autoroute cab be accessed in either direction within ten minutes. Far more character than a chain, and much better value.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with air conditioning - not all have it.

This hotel is a model for what a good 2 star hotel should be like. Rooms well decorated, bathrooms that would put a 4 star hotel to shame, everything works, decent breakfast and helpful owners. Macon is a great place for a short break - vinyards and wine-tasting, chateaux and lovely villages. The town itself is also very relaxed with plenty of restaurants. The hotel is very central - right on the river bank.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the river - in french if you can.
