“Wonderful culinary experience”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

Myself and my wife enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Le Cote Saint jacques in October 2012. The sun was shining on the banks of the river Seine as we sat down for a lunch in the simply but tastefully decorated restaurant room. The service throughout was attentive without being intrusive and each individual was knowledgeable and approachable. The food needs no introduction, Jean Michel Lorain and his kitchen team are world renowned and they produced a delightful mixture of techincal cooking as well as great local food cooked very simply. My main course of boudin noir was sublime, succulent, rich and most importantly left simple , which allowed the product to show off. Every course was a delight and targeted a different sensation on the palate, washed down of course with a wonderful Gevrey Chambertin , picked from the extensive wine list with emphasis on the Burgundy classics.

In conclusion we are talking about a 3 michelin star restaurant so there are certain standards expected but Jean Michel and his team create a wonderful dining experience without the formality of a Parisienne restaurant and at a very reasonable price for this level.

Thank you for a memorable day, we look forward to returning soon.

“Joy in Joigny”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

La Cote Saint Jacques was a delight! Service was gracious, the decor quietly elegant, and the dinners excellent. We stayed at the hotel and loved our patio facing the serene river with its swans swimming by.

“Pleaseant w/e away from Paris”
Reviewed June 17, 2012

We went there for our anniversary and spent a very pleasant and relaxing w/e.
We enjoyed the pool/sauna/steam bath and were able to then fully enjoy the dinner!
The dishes were all well presented and tasteful.
Staff were "au petit soin". At the end we had the chef who came and talked w/us. Always puts a human touch to your visit.

Our room/bathroom were clean.

We then visited joingy, cute little town.

“a pity”
Reviewed April 27, 2012

On a cool April day my wife and I had lunch at this legendary restaurant. It came with all the formality, careful service, and ceremony of a Michelin trois etoiles establishment. However, sadly the food was simply not up to the level of that high ranking. My wife's oysters in aspic was complex, subtly briny, and beautiful to the eye. But it lacked any assertiveness of flavor. It was dull. My foie gras was buttery, melt-in-your-mouth delicious. However, the chef had not taken care to separate the sinew. That's OK at a bistro--but at these lofty prices.. a no-no.The same was true of the sweatbreads, an unappealing slab that was supposed to have a hint of ginger--but no hint to found. My wife's main course-a lobster- was cooked to perfection. Desserts were uneven: A 'napoleon' was pastry heaven. The pear sweet was dull and unimaginative. Wines were paired with the meal and were supposed to be glasses of top draw stuff. Other than a premiere cru Chablis, they were vin slightly ordinaire. The red Beaune finished short and lacked acidity.(yesterday's bottle?) Finally the servers, albeit charming and gracious, were not dressed in a uniformly tidy and neat manner. The sommelier should have stayed at home or worn gloves to cover that nasty burn on the dorsum of his right hand. So-M. Lorain-what's going on here? Conferences, special events, large corporate groups? A pity!
