The hotel was not too clean and a bit tired looking. The room was comfortable enough but again, tired and dated. It was a bit noisy and the bed was not too comfy either. Breakfast was nice with fresh croissants and a good choice of other stuff; coffee was good and good choice
of teas. The hotel was near the motorway, so ideal for a stopover, not so good for visiting Chalon.

We stayed on the way back up from the south of France, having visited Chalon Sur Saone before we wanted to do so again. The hotel was advertised as being approx 1.7km for the city centre, but that must be as the crow flies. The receptionist was very helpful and gave us a map but walking in was not an option. The hotel has secure parking and has an outdoor area complete with Astroturf with a pool but its by a busy main road and is noisy outdoors. The bar is very expensive, a captive audience helps. Our room number 9 was located on the ground floor and was very comfortable. It had AC which was useful as it was very warm. The restaurant was very atmospheric and the food was nice. The worst part of the meal was the dessert, the choices were not advertised, neither on the board or the menu. The waiter tried to remember the choices and got them wrong. My husband ended up with a dessert that consisted of kiwi fruit mashed together with raw apple.
It looked like green frogspawn and was sour. The waiter actually stated that it was a fruit salad of kiwi and mango. This really spoiled dinner.
This was not up to the usual Ibis standards. The following morning we wanted an early start and breakfast was from 6.30am. We went down at 6.25 to find the restaurant full and people queueing.
There were two coach parties at the hotel and breakfast must have started much earlier. We left without eating breakfast.
All in all a disappointing visit.

I chose this hotel for it's location, but I made a poor choice. Not on the location, but on the hotel. Just across the street is the new Ibis Styles, much nicer, newer and cleaner.
Ibis Europe is fairly old, which does not bother me, as long as everything is clean. The room was OK, the bathroom was not spotless, but what drives me crazy with Ibis in general is the stupid idea to give you two large towels and no small ones in the bathroom. I do not know who thought of that great idea.
You will not find anything in the bathroom, they have one of those one-gel-fits-all-purposes in containers next to the sink and in the shower.
Corridor carpets and all public areas are filthy. You see stains everywhere.
Wireless works OK, but for some reason voice over Skype doesn't.
Staff were OK, breakfast is basic, but you can still find everything.
Just go to the Ibis styles across the parking lot.
