When we checked in we were very impressed by the lady who was single handedly dealing with reception and the restaurant at lunch. It was a very different story in the evening. We were served with aperitifs on the terrace by "Carole" aparently the senior member of staff. She was unwelcoming, unfriendly and unsmiling. The dinner menu was limited if you did not want a steak or a burger - no fish except for salted cod or a salmon tartare burger, no chicken or pork. My father and I ordered steak, mine was cooked ok (medium rare) but tough and a poor piece of meat probably dumped on the grill from frozen. My father's medium rare steak was charred and he could not even cut it. We complained and after arguing, Carole took it back to the kitchen. His fresh steak took 15 minutes to appear and was a lump of raw meat when he cut into it. This was also sent back and reappeared having been cooked further. It was so tough that it was inedible. We refused to pay for it. If there is one thing you hope is that a French restaurant can cook a decent steak frites. Sadly this was clearly beyond this kitchen. However, the worst thing was the attitude. No apology just lots of flouncing around and Gallic shrugs and petulant muttering.
It's a good location for a traveller but it's in an industrial park and nowhere near the SNCF station as it claims and a long way from the centre of Vannes. The rooms are fine, basic but very clean with a decent bathroom and good bed linen and towels. The bright green paint, cushions etc. are rather unpleasant. Just don't eat in the restaurant!
