“excellent lunch stop”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2012

enjoyed a delicious lunch here a couple of weeks ago with family ( two hungry teenagers including a vegetarian)Exactly two hours from Cherbourg off the autoroute A84 at Fougeres. Just followed the signs to Hotel Balzac which is close by via the pedestianised area. No difficulty parking right outside the restaurant at 1.30pm.
Lovely quirky interior full of vintage finds.Delicious homemade roast chicken and fried new potatoes. The teenagers devoured giant omlettes and a memorable chocolate mousse!50 euros for all 4 of us with soft drinks and pudding and a couple of coffees.
Easy to get back on the motorway to the south of the town via ring road and several roundabouts. Fougeres very pretty, lots of half timbered houses and stone buiding of character.

“Motorway break”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2012

Small archetypical simple French family restaurant: the husband and wife team are efficient and friendly hosts. The three-course E14.50 lunch menu had plenty of choice and my tasty lamb cutlets were excellent. A relaxing break on the Cherbourg autoroute as an alternative to motorway fare. Worth seeking out perhaps after viewing the local chateau. Located on a side street behind the town centre square where lunchtime parking is easy. Warm memories.

Wandering around Fougeres looking for lunch we stumbled across Le P`tit Bouchon run by husband and wife. He ran front of house while she created dishes in a tiny kitchen at the rear. Good choice excellent value how madame manged in the tiny kitchen ,she was a miracle worker. If driving south from St Malo you should try this little bistro

“Excellent French bistro”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2011

The hotel concierge recommended this restaurant and were pleased that he did. The place is quirky and typically French, and the proprietor was friendly, sending his wife, who is also the chef, to help out with translating the menu. The food was simple but well cooked and presented and good value for money.

“Interesting”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2011

We chose this restaurant as the result of TripAdvisor reports about the Balzac Hotel.

The restaurant was interesting with lots of old books and other artifacts. The restauranteur was also interesting to talk to. Brilliant was the fact that when he found that I had left my camers on the table he guessed correct and went out of his way to return it to me at the hotel. He got there before me!

The food was satisfactory, quite french, but he sold no bottles of wine only a very limited supply via carafes. If wine is important give this restaurant a miss, if an interesting experience is what you want do go here.
