Host not particularly friendly and we didn't speak French very well so difficult to converse. It was fine for an overnight stop but anyone larger than average could not have accessed the shower and toilet facilities. We had to give a 10 Euro deposit for the Wi-fi card and when we handed it in the following morning it quickly disappeared under the reception desk and we had to ask for its return! The town itself is lovely and we walked up to the top of the hill where the higher town in located. We eat out in the town but only one restaurant to chose from and that wasn't good. Breakfast was very basic, even by French standards.

bonjour,
salutations.

Waking up to the sound of belled sheep cascading down the hill across the road certainly added a charming dimension to this necessary stopover. The old clifftop village is also great for an excellent dinner and a morning walk along the village walls. The hotel itself was attractive from the outside and sheep-filled views were pleasant, but rooms were average in terms of comfort and fit out. The host seemed uninterested in us or our stay. Wifi was woeful - I sat at the top of the first floor stairs to get any reception.

Room Tip: from where you can see the sheep!

Jean Pierre.

When we arrived the host did not seem very welcoming, but after a while he opened up and became quite chatty and obliging. Our room was fine, the Wi-Fi worked, and the evening meal, though from a very limited menu, was excellent. So was the breakfast. It seems it is difficult to get people to work there, so the host and his wife have to do everything themselves. As an incentive, there is a superb, brand new Leclerc in St Flour - handy for getting things you forgot before heading off south. In short, perfectly OK for a one night stop en route. And it's rural enough to say hello to some goats and sheep over the fence at the back!

We travelled in a hire car which made it relatively easy for us but be warned that this charming hotel is at the foot of the hill where the main part of St Flour sits (probably a 20 minute uphill walk?) There is quite a lot of parking behind the hotel but you can also park Over the road in front of the hotel.

The rooms are not large and the ensuite quite compact. However they were clean, the beds comfortable and adequate for the purpose – we had a room at the end on the first floor. We even had our bags carried upstairs for us. We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner there and the food was very good. The host was very pleasant and helpful in making suggestions for visiting the surrounding area.

Our Wi-Fi experience was not good. The issue, when we were there at least, is that it was not particularly powerful so you will get potluck depending on the room you're in and how far it is from the router. I solved the problem by taking my laptop down to reception and access was very good there so if this is important to you there is at least a solution.

Would certainly stay there again.

Room Tip: If Wi-Fi important try to get a room above reception :-)

Probably the most helpful and caring hoteliers we have ever come across.
During our walking holiday in France my partner had injured her knee and was clearly struggling with stairs when inspecting the rooms at this hotel. When we came back with our bags M and Mme had a quick conflab and suddenly we were shown to a ground floor room with disabled access at no extra cost! Nice room too and a good meal.
