Stayed at the Ibis In July - The room was very small and beds very uncomfortable. Carpet filthy. We were woken in the morning at about 8 am by somebody knocking on the door and opening it straight away with no chance to answer. Shouting in French - then slammed the door shut. The only good thing was that we had a very nice view of the River.

Room Tip: Could not comment.

We have stayed at the Ibis Montlucon several times on the journey between the Channel ports and the Mediterranean. Montlucon is a really good stop-off location, and the Ibis is a good value for money hotel with all you would expect from Ibis. If time allows then the restaurants in Montlucin are within leasy walking distance.

We have already stayed at this hotel around 10 times. It is about half way from Calais to the Costa Brava so it makes a very convenient stopping place, we have also stayed there en route to la Tania in the French Alpes. Many bedrooms have attractive views across the river. The underground car-park is very useful, especially when the weather is bad (hot or wet) and the car is full of expensive purchases. We will be staying there again in September or October 2012. One point - the new flat-screened televisions do not carry any English language channels but they do have most other European languages.

Stayed for one night to break a long journey, and wish we had not.We stay at hotels under the Accor brand frequently, so are used to small variations in quality and service, but have never had cause for complaint, rather the opposite. This place however was so bad that it even prompted me to write a letter of complaint to Accor customer services, something I have never done before. Reception was okay but it was downhill after that, hotel is badly in need of an update but that does not excuse an inadequate cleaning regime and an obvious lack standards and management supervision. The bath had black mould around it, and the general appearance ot the bathroom dilapidated with an ill fitting bath panel and a loose edging strip at the side of the sink, in addition the bedroom had little evidence of any form of deep cleaning. We were so disappointed, that we returned to reception to ask for another room, sadly the alternative that we were offered was only marginally better than the first so we gritted our teeth and stayed where we were. Dinner was very poor, my entrecote steak was virtually inedible and covered in a brown "goo" masquerading as "sauce echalote," my wife's fish was dry and tasteless. We did not chance breakfast !
If we had not been so tired after a long drive, and had a better knowledge of the area, we would definately not have stayed at this hotel.

The hotel is central to the town, in a good position with a spectacular view of a fountain in the centre of the wide river Cher. Staff were curt ties and helpful although their English was not very good but neither was our French. Double bed room was comfortable and clean with air con which made it very pleasant. Only disadvantage is there is no hotel car park but we were lucky to find a space in the limited on street parking outside the hotel.
