Stayed overnight on our way to Cherbourg. Booked it on route just from checking TripAdvisor. We were delighted with the friendly staff, clean rooms and ample breakfast at s very reasonable rate. Will definitely check other B&B hotels when traveling again. Joan

We frequently stay at B and B hotels in France and have always been very pleased with our stays until ..... We made the mistake of booking this hotel for New Years Eve 2015. We booked in and were perturbed that there was no security for the car park unlike every other one we have stayed at. It was an open car park next to an equally open Lorry park. The remote control didn't work for the TV and reception had no new batteries. One of the bedside lights was broken on top showing bare wires.
We decided as it was a necessary stop for us we would stay anyway. Knowing it was New Years Eve but havIng driven all day and the car park was more or less empty, we put the "do not disturb" sign on our door and were asleep by 11 pm. We were woken at midnight by screaming, shouting and pounding on our door by a group of 5 young people who were obviously worse for drink. They continued to make a noise, shouting and one girl crying loudly, both inside the hotel and outside under our window through the night. Also smoking in the corridor. In the morning there were signs that at least one hadn't held there drink at the top of the stairs and they were milling around reception next to the breakfast area, putting packets of food in their pockets, pouring coffee and leaving it on the counter and generally being a nuisance. The young girl on reception seemed overwhelmed and unable to take control. As soon as we finished our breakfast we left after running the gauntlet of the same youths arguing in the car park over a half bottle of spirits and a bottle of cola.
This is one to avoid if you need a rest even if it is expected to hear something on this night of the year it is unacceptable to rent rooms to very young youths (18/19 ?) and not have a management presence on site all night to control them. We were very glad to leave and will not return.

Surprisingly nice hotel for the cost. Staff excellent, polite and helpful. Clean room, nice room decor and relaxing colour scheme. A/C excellent (it was a very hot day). Very comfortable bed. Excellent bathroom with extra modern fixtures, hot water shower with good pressure. Breakfast varieties and better quality than would expect. Walking distance to other restaurants.

I don't know where to start really. 1st we arrived at 3pm and the hotel is closed between 11 and 5, there is a check in machine where you can use a code you were given when you booked online but the machine was out of order. There was a massive smash in the glass door where obviously someone had been trying to get in and was a bit peeved so decided to kick it! Having been faced with this, we drove off to the centre with our bags in the car and did something touristy until 5pm. The place is on the edge of a retail park and really is in the middle of nowhere, I think I saw a bus stop but you would have problems here if you didn't have a car.

We got back at 5pm, and managed to get in the place, the young lady on reception gave us the absolute minimum service and only spoke French. You get a code on a piece of paper and that lets you in your room and it's the same code for the front door (the the smashed-in panel). Take a photo of it or make sure others in your group have it written down in case you lose it.

Free wifi and free parking, there's a tv but no hairdryer and no airconditioning. We were fairly warm in April so I imagine this would be impossible in the summer. Something to think about. The place itself really wasn't that bad once you got in the room, we were on the front over-looking the car park so we could see our car, always nice, but it's a soul-less place, with only the very basic things for a night's stay. It was very clean, though, one thing in its favour. It's a rabbit warren once you get in, all the rooms are very close together. There's no lift so if you have lots of luggage you don't need to be on the 2nd floor! Also you won't be able to open a big suitcase as there isn't much floor space around the bed.

The snack machine was out of order as well. You can drive to Carrefour and there are restaurants around the retail park but not a lot for vegetarians, only a few things in Flunch, which saved us from going hungry that night. We couldn't find anywhere else to eat, everything was closed at 8pm we drove round for an hour, so be prepared to take your own snack food/picnic.

Montlucon is a lovely place and well worth a visit but I wouldn't recommend this place, it didn't have good customer service, there was no-one there for most of the day, making checking in a pain if you arrive in the middle of the day as well did. Also, don't know what the problem was with the restaurants, we couldn't find anything open.

Room tip: We had top floor and overlooking car park at the front. Uninspiring view but you can see your car.
