Chateau La Grange Fort
Reviewed September 1, 2013

This site is perfect if you want a top quality site that is situated on the route down to the south west of France. It has a top quality feel set in the grounds of an Old castel/fort. The staff could not be more helpful and the pitches all have character. We camped here for one night down to the south of France and another night on the return back in August 2013. There is a lovely feel to this site that is packed full with character. The pool is lovely and set next to the castle. A real sun trap here. You can pre order pan chocolate and milk etc and collect them In front of the castle in the morning. Do not underestimate this site, you will love it. My children aged six, five and two loved this site. The only negative was that it cost 50 euros a night peak season, but worth the money in my view.

Room Tip: Get a pitch near the castle. It looks great at night.

We rented a bungalow on this campsite for two nights and really wished we had stayed longer. The campsite is based around a beautiful old chateau set in pretty grounds. The whole place just had so much atmosphere to it and although it was high season did not feel overcrowded. If you want peace and quiet with a lovely ambience then look no further.

First and foremost this is a campsite, with campsite facilities. The accommodation in the Chateau is ok, a mixture of old and new with a fairly confused theme, a nice room let down by poor toilet facilities [cupboard with no latch]. The campsite is right next to you, and shower blocks 3 paces from the snack bar tables. Oh and don't expect a restaurant - there is a snackbar run by a very harassed young lady. Getting a drink outside of the snackbar opening time was a hell of a challenge! The lady 'running' the terrace 'bar' served as a one person customer prevention desk. However there was a courteous welcome from the male owner and a pleasant lady in the site office [when we left] - other staff didn't convince us that they were happy to be there at all.... Breakfast about adequate, but everything, though not necessarily unpleasant, was quite frankly a challenge.... This place is confused - just doesn't know what it wants to be..! So if you are expecting a chateau experience, bearing in mind that's what you are paying for, then I am afraid this is not for you. Would we visit again - sorry, not likely. I have marked the rating as poor based on the amount we paid, otherwise I would have generously marked as average.

Interesting mix of hotel guests and campers - sometimes sharing things a bit too closely (ie resturant facility for evening meals was just the bar bistro for pizzas and burgers). But inside the castle its great, wonderful comfortable room, fantastic decor where its been done up, but entire site is a work in progress venue given the massive scale of it all. Very friendly family who are hands on owners, good venue for a stopover en route (which we were) but better for campers as a several day destination

Room Tip: we had the cheapest room in the house and had absolutely no complaints, although the loo closet was...

We were not aware until we arrived that the chateau was in the middle of a VERY busy campsite. Parking was on a first come first served basis and although we did not mind walking from where we eventually found a space, we did feel that for the price there should have been spaces reserved for the hotel guests.
The room was well appointed and beautifully decorated, but it did not have either the large bathroom or the balcony with wonderful views that we were promised when we booked. (Our toilet was in what appeared to be a small cupboard.)
The food in the restaurant was really lovely, but there was no menu choice. It was possible to eat in the bar which was full of the campers.
We enjoyed our stay and found the owners to be charming, but feel that we should have been made more aware of the situation with regards the campsite and the large number of people staying there.
For these reasons we thought that the room was over-priced.
