The place was spotless, the service was best: from the drinks Wendy placed for us in the refrigerator, to the fresh bread David bought every day from "boulangerie" ; from the frendliness and well informed advice we received for our daily visits (during our 11 days stay), to lending us a hair dryer, that we forgot at home.

During my short tour of France earlier this year and my short stop-over at Sarlat, I found this wonderful B&B Le Jardin Sarlat. It has a beautiful garden where one can relax and the hospitality is nothing short of excellent. The rooms are decorated beautifully and are immaculate. The owners Wendy and David make you feel right at home. As a South African who travels frequently I have found this B&B is well in line with international standards. Because I enjoyed my stay so much I returned to Le Jardin Sarlat for a second time this month, this time for a much longer stay and again enjoyed every minute of my stay there and hope to return again soon.
Thank you Wendy and David - Hope to see you soon again.

If you are planning a trip to beautiful Sarlat, Le Jardin may or may not be your venue, the B & B caters for I think 8 people but only has veranda and lounge seats for 4, however the porch steps are fully available to sit on as “we did”. The breakfast was limited apart for the last day where scrambled egg was offered, please note breakfast is not included in the price. Very clean / presented rooms and David & Wendy are charming and make you feel very welcome, they can’t do enough for you, however this is reflected in the price. All said I very much enjoyed the stay.

Sorry you were not as thrilled with Le Jardin as all our other reviewers have been. Frankly we are a little puzzled by your comments, especially as you told us that you had been staying at a €200 per night Chateau and preferred our house.
We do only have four seats in the guest's lounge, but as far as I know we are the only b&b in Sarlat which has a guest's lounge. There are 6 further seats next door in the residents dining room.
There are 4 comfortable seats on the veranda and in addition there are 8 on the Breakfast Terrace, 4 on the Wisteria Terrace, 2 loungers and 2 deck chairs around the pool and a bench for 2 on the lawn. With 22 seats outside we thought we had it coverred!
In common with other b&b in Sarlat we do charge extra for breakfasts, giving guests the option of eating at one of the 30 or so restaurants in town. We do feel however that we offer great value and virtually all of our guests choose to eat with us. We always offer juice, cereals, meusli, fresh fruit, plain and fruit yogurt, fresh French bread, pastries and a selection of teas and coffee. For guests staying several days we sometimes offer variety by adding poached, scrambled or boiled eggs, ham or cheese. We would have been happy to provide any of these if you had asked. At €7 we are only €1 more expensive than a coffee and croissant in town.
I'm not sure that you understand the concept of a Chambre d'hote and would suggest that you may be happier staying in one of the corporate hotels in future.

We stayed for a weekend in August 09. it is an oasis of calm in a very busy tourist town. Sarlat is our favourite town in France, great atmosphere day and night. The gardens of Le Jardin are a haven from the bustle of the busy town, and it gave me my first sighting ever of a red squirell. Our Castlenaud room was very comfortable with an amazing large en suite. It was great to be able to use the lounge and other outside areas, even the pool, whenever you wished. David and Wendy made us very welcome, and recommended some great restaurants etc. All adding to a great return to Sarlat.

If you are planning a trip to Dordogne cross your fingers and pray that Le Jardin B&B has availability for your dates. This place is beyond perfection! Really.

I just spent a week there in July 2009. One morning the other residents all departed and before the new "shift" came in I surveyed all the rooms. (Planning my next trip already). Here is a concise (and wistful) overview:

- Sarlat, where the B&B is located is hands down the perfect base to explore this region rich in history, stunning nature and gastronomic delights

- the location of Le Jardin is perfect. you are in Sarlat, a mere 5 minute walk into the historic town centre but you have the peace of a residential neighbourhood without tourist bustle. You'll wake up to birdsong and views of the property's luscious gardens.

- the rooms are perfect. They are all pristine, newly renovated with modern amenities while retaining the charm of the 200-year-old building. even the smallest room is large enough for a couple to stay VERY comfortably.

- the furnishings and decor are perfect. the rooms and common areas are elegantly appointed, with comfy and thoughtful touches throughout. And I loved the beautiful photographs on the walls, all taken by your host, David.

- the outside areas are a perfect bonus to enhance your vacation experience -- a patio area, a lovely covered porch, a swimming pool, lots of lawn space should a game of badminton strike your fancy or if sunbathing is a part of your itinerary -- all surrounded by mature fruit trees. And what could be more pleasurable after a day of exploring medieval villages than a glass of chilled white wine on the porch as the rays of the setting sun filter through foliage and cicadas stridulate their nightly lullaby?

- memories of wine (and much laughter) bring me to the heart of Le Jardin--your perfect, perfect hosts, Wendy and David. They welcome guests with warmth and grace. They care for you as if you were family. And when you leave you know that you have good friends in this corner of la belle France. I dare you not to shed a tear and begin making plans for another vacation to this area.

P.S. there is one other member of the welcoming committee. Oscar. The most perfect chocolate lab who thinks he is a chocolate bar! Sweet, sweet, sweet. Adorable doggy smile, intelligent amber eyes, a happy wagging tail and he is so well behaved! Even people who aren't used to doggies fall under his formidable charms. He is the best pup in France, but that's because he's English, I hear.

We stayed 3 nights in July. Third visit to Sarlat, never disappointed. The welcome and accomodation are second to none. Hidden away from hustle and bustle of busy town centre but only 5mins walk into old town attractions. We stayed in Montfort room, clean light airy, bathroom excellent. Good breakfast. No hesitation is staying again. Wonderful.

My husband and I, along with our 2 teenage children stayed at Le Jardin for 2 nights at the beginning of July. We were greeted warmly by David and Wendy who welcomed us with Champagne (or “bubbles” as Wendy calls it) on the beautiful front porch. Our room was spotless, bright and comfortable with crisp, fresh bed linens and soft, fluffy towels. The en suite bath room was spacious even by North American standards and absolutely immense compared to anything else we encountered in France. The garden was lovely and tasty too as we were able to eat cherries we pick right off the tree. The location is great – an enjoyable five minute walk takes you to the town centre where there are restaurants in abundance. Wendy and David only recently became B&B owners but they have obviously found their niche. They are such warm and gracious hosts we felt at home immediately. If you have plans to visit the Dordogne, do yourselves a huge favour and book yourself into Le Jardin.
